Whenever my husband and I head to the seaside, he always insists on takeout sashimi. This is my recommendation for Sokcho Central Market food: a takeout spot where the fish is caught by the fishermen themselves, and the mixed platters let you try several kinds, so it's great value. Let me introduce Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo (속초대일호방어) : ) !!

Where is Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo, and where do you park?

Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo is inside Sokcho Central Market, and it's open 10:00-20:00. Parking and delivery are available, prices are fixed, and they say the fish is caught by the fishermen themselves and that the owners run the largest fish farm in Korea.

We parked in the Sokcho Tourist & Fish Market public lot. If you spend ₩15,000 or more, you can get one 30-minute free parking ticket, so be sure to ask for the parking discount : ) !! There are several lots, so tell them which one you used and they'll give you the ticket!

This is the outside of the shop : ) We found it easily while browsing the market, and the selection of mixed platters was huge. It's mainly a takeout shop, but there's also a hall at the back, so if you'd like to eat in, just buy your fish and eat there.

What kind of sashimi does Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo serve?

The fishermen catch and raise the fish themselves every morning, and since it's sold as aged sashimi, the texture was even better, with no fishy smell, and it tasted great!

Can it sell out in the evening?

By evening the sashimi can all be sold out, so if you're going later in the day, I recommend calling first : ) They sell sashimi and sushi, with a really wide variety. Our accommodation was close to Sokcho Central Market, so we went on the afternoon and evening of the first day, and true to a famous Sokcho takeout spot, everything was sold out by evening.

Note that it's a seasonal platter, so the fish changes with the seasons : ) The upside is that you get to taste fresh, in-season fish!

What sushi does Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo have?

Besides eel sushi, shrimp sushi and egg sushi, there were assorted sushi sets made with fish caught in Sokcho, so the sushi range was huge too. It's a great sushi spot, so sushi fans should give it a try. With so much to eat in Central Market, I recommend it for sashimi lovers : ) !!

Yellowtail, ray and red drum platter: what's in the takeout set

We took home a mixed platter with yellowtail, ray and red drum sashimi. Ray sashimi was strongly recommended, so my husband, who had never tried it, took the challenge. The result: a success!!!

We packed it to eat by the sea, full of excitement. Browsing took a long time, but they packed it up in no time. They included ice, chopsticks, chojang (spicy vinegar sauce), pickled rakkyo (Japanese scallion pickles) and soy sauce, plus mini pickled red ginger.

How was the sashimi takeout by the sea?

Eating the Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo platter at Janghoho Port, famous for its clear seawater, was so delicious. I think the best thing about takeout is that you can eat wherever you want.

This place was paradise. I recommend getting takeout and eating by the sea like we did ><

The slices were a good thickness and nicely chewy, so my sashimi-loving husband was thrilled. Whenever we're near the sea he has sashimi as a late-night snack, and this time was a big success again ><

From the top: yellowtail, ray and red drum. I heard ray sashimi is found almost only in Sokcho. My husband said it was his first time, and that it was really good. With a great view and great food but no beer, he dashed off to buy some. He said there was a designated driver, so he drank alone and made me drive.. That chewy aged sashimi platter that led my husband to drink....

Fatty, savory yellowtail sashimi

Yellowtail sashimi

The yellowtail was fatty and rich. The more you chewed, the more savory flavor came through.

Ray sashimi with a crunchy bone texture

Ray sashimi

The ray sashimi had bits of ray bone you could crunch, so it was crunchy and fun to chew. I understand it's sold only in Sokcho; there was no smell and my husband said it was delicious. The texture was the star.

Soft, chewy red drum sashimi

Red drum sashimi

The red drum was soft and chewy, with a subtle sweetness, a taste even people who dislike oily fish would enjoy.

Verdict: is Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo worth it?

Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo is a great mixed-sashimi spot with fish caught by the fishermen themselves, so if you want good-value sashimi takeout, I recommend it in Sokcho Central Market. With plenty of other food in the market, it's also a good addition to a Sokcho trip : )!!
