Pip Espresso Bar is an espresso bar café in a converted detached house on a Seongmisan-ro alley in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul. After ordering at the bar counter, the writer sat indoors with an iced americano, an iced latte and a Stroop'more (a stroopwafel set on top of marshmallow); the latte tasted nutty, and the Stroop'more was very sweet, as expected. With vintage lamps, a terrace and a wide cocktail menu, Pip Espresso Bar is a Yeonnam-dong café worth coming back to.

Guri lash salon: sting-free lash perm for sensitive eyes, Mippeudang

Mippeudang Lash Guri is a lash extension, lash perm and waxing salon on the 3rd floor of the Dongwon Park Building near Guri Station in Guri, Gyeonggi. After a consultation about lashes that droop straight down, the writer got a black ampoule lash perm at Mippeudang Lash Guri and felt almost no stinging or burning despite sensitive eyes, ending up with a natural, understated curl. If an eyelash curler and mascara never hold your curl for long, the black ampoule perm at Mippeudang Lash Guri is worth considering.

Family board game café in Jamsil: Sunday Kirby and manga, One Play

One Play Jamsil Branch is a board game, Nintendo, manga and OTT café in Songpa, Seoul, near Sports Complex Station and Jamsilsaenae Station. A family of four (two kids and two parents) went on a Sunday on the 2-hour Sonagi (Rain Shower) plan at ₩10,900 with a drink included. The kids played Kirby on the Nintendo and board games, and mom read three manga volumes. One Play Jamsil Branch is a good indoor outing in Jamsil for families who want to share one space while each doing their own thing.

Seochon bakery café revisit with a friend: Americano refills, Respire

Respire Bakery Cafe Seochon is a two-floor bakery café on Hyoja-ro 13-gil in Jongno, Seoul. On a second visit with a friend, the writer had an iced latte, a lemonade and a chocolate ciabatta, and only learned this time that Americanos come with refills; the salt bread was sold out but came out again at 3 p.m., in time to take some home. Respire Bakery Cafe Seochon is well worth a spot on a half-day Seochon itinerary.

Daily Fix Gangnam Main Branch is a comfortable spot to enjoy burgers and an easy family chat on a sunny day.

Byeollae family shabu kalguksu with monkfish, ₩19,000 set: Onjeongban

Onjeongban Shabu Kalguksu Namyangju Byeollae Main Branch is a Korean restaurant specializing in shabu kalguksu (shabu-shabu hot pot with knife-cut noodles) in Byeollae, Namyangju. The writer first visited with Mom and a younger sibling, became a regular, and ordered the 19,000-won-per-person set of shabu kalguksu, herbal boiled pork and boneless braised monkfish, plus gondeure (Korean thistle) rice from the self-bar, then noodles and vegetable porridge to finish. Onjeongban is a strongly recommended family restaurant in Byeollae for its value, generous set and pleasant atmosphere.

On a first visit to Baedagol Bakery House's parasol terrace beside the hydrangea garden, the writer had salt bread, a sausage bun and tomato ciabatta with an ade and a special-bean iced americano, and the cordless fan lent to each guest kept the outdoor seats comfortable. Verdict: Baedagol Bakery House is a Wondang regular worth revisiting every time the seasonal menu changes.

Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is a 24-hour gukbap (pork and rice soup) restaurant in the Bangi-dong food alley in Songpa, Seoul. After a weekend outing in Jamsil, a family with kids ate jowl suyuk gukbap (boiled pork soup with rice), a large suyuk gukbap without dadaegi (spicy seasoning paste) and an 8,000-won flame-grilled pork side, which the kids liked most. With parking in front and plenty of seating, Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is a great fit for a family meal out.

The writer and her younger sister ordered the 2-person set (49,500 won) for lunch: orange juice, a Greek yogurt & tomato salad, bacon cream pasta and porcini shrimp gnocchi, and they got a table for two without waiting just before Brivit filled up. Thanks to the rich, thick bacon cream pasta and handmade gnocchi, Brivit Gangnam Station is a Gangnam Station pasta restaurant worth coming back to.

Misa izakaya with a kid: kombu salmon and mentaiko pasta at Haruto

Haruto is an izakaya near Exit 3 of Misa Station in Hanam, Gyeonggi, with views over Misa Lake Park. A mom and her salmon-loving kid visited Haruto in the daytime for kombu-cured salmon sashimi (26,000 won) and mentaiko cream pasta (19,000 won), and enjoyed the warm lighting, soft music and friendly service.
