Yeonnam-dong converted-house café: Stroop'more, nutty latte at Pip
In short
Pip Espresso Bar is an espresso bar café in a converted detached house on a Seongmisan-ro alley in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul. After ordering at the bar counter, the writer sat indoors with an iced americano, an iced latte and a Stroop'more (a stroopwafel set on top of marshmallow); the latte tasted nutty, and the Stroop'more was very sweet, as expected. With vintage lamps, a terrace and a wide cocktail menu, Pip Espresso Bar is a Yeonnam-dong café worth coming back to.

What kind of Yeonnam-dong café is Pip Espresso Bar?
Pip Espresso Bar is an espresso bar café in a converted detached house in an alley off Seongmisan-ro in Yeonnam-dong. Walk past Hongdae and further into Yeonnam-dong and you reach a quiet residential street lined with cherry trees. I come here a lot because the mood is so good. When you go looking for cafés in Yeonnam-dong, you find everything from tiny little shops to, around here, converted houses with a really distinct personality!

Pip is a converted house, and being an espresso bar, it has a slightly hip vibe! It was a detached house, so the layout feels different from the moment you step in!

I'd walked past and thought the mood was great, so "next time I'll go in"... and here I finally am at Pip Espresso Bar!
Walk into the Seongmisan-ro alley and the noise drops right away, and the cherry trees continue just ahead. Pip Espresso Bar sits right in that alley!

Ordering at the bar counter and the cocktail menu at Pip Espresso Bar
When you walk into Pip Espresso Bar, you order at a bar-style counter. Besides coffee, the menu has cocktails, beer and desserts, so there's a lot to pick from!

Cocktail and beer menu
The cocktail and beer menu at Pip Espresso Bar is split into aperitivo cocktails, granita cocktails and beer.
- Aperol spritz – bestseller
- Campari spritz
- Limoncello spritz
- Negroni
- Bailey's granita
- Limon granita
- Peroni Beer
Such a wide selection! Next time I'll try a cocktail in the daytime! 🍹

Dessert menu
Pip Espresso Bar has plenty of desserts too. Today I said, let's skip the tiramisu we always get and try some other sweet treat, haha.
- Peach Melba
- Tiramisu
- Banana Crumble – bestseller
- Muscat
- Stroop'more
- Macadamia Platter – bestseller

Indoor seating and vintage lamps at Pip Espresso Bar
To the right of the counter at Pip Espresso Bar there's also a spot where you can perch and drink, like this,

and the pretty vintage lamps on the right side of the counter really catch the eye!

After ordering, you head straight inward, past the self-serve bar, and in you go~

Going further inside at Pip also leads out to the terrace, and maybe because it wasn't too hot that day, the terrace was full of people.

There were plenty of free seats earlier, but we picked a spot inside, haha.

I'm a vintage nerd, so I can't just walk past things like this! These vintage lamps are so pretty, right?

There are lots of seats further inside Pip Espresso Bar too.

How do Pip Espresso Bar's Stroop'more and iced latte taste?
That day at Pip Espresso Bar we ordered an iced americano, an iced latte and a Stroop'more. We're latte and americano people and wanted to drink espresso, but figured it would make us thirsty, haha, so we ended up ordering our usual combo again...

▪️ Our order ▪️ Iced americano / Iced latte / Stroop'more

Stroop'more, which feels like hotteok (sweet filled pancake) – 11.5 – one of Pip Espresso Bar's signature items
The Stroop'more is a stroopwafel set on top of marshmallow! I'm expecting extreme sweetness...

First, the coffee at Pip is nutty, just how I like it! Latte passed ✨
The stroopwafel is a bit hard and chewy (I've had it before, haha), and trying it, yep, it's sweet, haha.

A stroopwafel is a traditional Dutch waffle cookie! The deep, sweet caramel aroma meets the bitterness of espresso and they pull each other into line! Each is strong on its own, but together they balance out, which I found amazing.
Me, I liked the ice cream with that familiar taste, haha.

Pip Espresso Bar hours, happy hour, pets and parking
Pip Espresso Bar is open daily 09:00–23:00 with no break time. Pets are allowed, but parking is not available.
As a Blue Ribbon-awarded Yeonnam-dong café, both the space and the menu had real attention to detail. I stopped by while looking for somewhere to go nearby, and I get the feeling I'll be back? At happy hour it's spritz and beer 1+1, so it's perfect as an evening stop on a Yeonnam-dong food outing. Pets are welcome too, so sitting on the terrace with a dog looks totally great.
