Flyaway ends after magic straightening, fixed with side bangs and a layered perm

After the magic straightening treatment, my hair stayed calm and easy for a while, but as time passed, the newly grown-out hair started bugging me little by little. Leaving it as it was felt awkward, so this time I decided to get side bangs and a layered perm. I visited Juno Hair Dongtan Solbitnaru Branch and had the treatment done by designer Bomi.

Where is Juno Hair Dongtan Solbitnaru Branch, and where do you park?

Juno Hair Dongtan Solbitnaru Branch is located on the 2nd floor of Jeongrim Plaza, 65 Dongtansolbit-ro, Dongtan-gu, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, and is open daily from 10:00 to 21:00. You can use the building's basement parking lot, but it's a bit cramped, and the Morning Town Amano parking lot (220-4 Bansong-dong, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do) is also available. ※ Note that the salon building and the parking lot are separate.

Juno Hair Dongtan Solbitnaru Branch is located on the 2nd floor of Jeongrim Plaza, part of the 11-unit commercial strip in Solbitnaru Village. The entire 2nd floor is the salon, so you step out of the elevator right into Juno Hair. The atmosphere also varied a bit from space to space.

Inside the salon: atmosphere and the kids room

The salon combines a bright white-toned area with a calm wood-toned area, giving off an overall clean yet comfortable feel.

What really caught my eye was the kids room. It's separated by tempered glass, so you can easily keep an eye on kids inside, and there's also a media area for them to watch things. The restroom even has a diaper-changing table, so families visiting the salon with children would probably find this space quite welcome.

Side bangs while keeping the length: how the consultation went

The first thing I mentioned during the consultation was that I wanted to keep my length as much as possible. What I wanted came down to just three things!

• Ends flowing naturally inward
• Hair that isn't too heavy
• Side bangs that flatter my face line

Designer Bomi looked at both my face shape and my current hair condition together, and set the length of the side bangs and the placement of the layers accordingly. Rather than just applying the style I wanted as-is, she also explained which parts of my face shape to highlight and which parts the hair could complement, which helped me decide on the style.

A layered perm needs a certain amount of length for the curl at the ends to look natural, so my length stayed almost the same as before.

Only the damaged parts were trimmed, and heavy sections were lightened. Even before the perm, shaping the side bangs along my face line already changed the front look. At the end, she checked the texture once more and carefully finished it so the hair wouldn't look clumped together.

The layered perm step by step, over 3 hours

Perm treatments do take quite a while. I sat there for over 3 hours this time too, but they gave me a lap blanket for the shampoo part and prepared drinks and snacks. The staff also checked in carefully along the way, which made the long session feel less uncomfortable.

The shampoo room had both a private space you could use alone and a shared room with curtains, so I was able to get my shampoo done quietly either way.

This time the process was rod winding followed by heat treatment, then finished with the press method.

And during the final neutralizing and shampoo, I also got a bit of a head massage. After sitting for over 3 hours my body was a little stiff, so getting a massage during the shampoo helped release some of that tension. Little touches like this felt surprisingly comforting during such a long session.

How to style a layered perm at home

Finished off with a blow-dry! They told me to first shake out and dry the hair roughly, then once it's about 80% dry, guide the ends in the direction you want. Apparently the direction you dry the ends in changes the feel of the curl, so I'll keep that in mind when styling at home.

The finished hair wasn't overly curled — instead, the ends flow naturally inward.

It was close to the look I wanted. Especially with the awkward flyaway ends from the magic straightening now tamed, and the side bangs naturally wrapping around my face line, my whole head looked lighter than before. Even though I didn't cut much length off, it felt like a whole new hairstyle, so I'm really happy with this change too.
