Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch is close to Amsa Station Exit 1! It's right there as soon as you walk into the market entrance!

In front of the shop it was busy with people ordering and waiting! It had the longest wait line in the whole market! I guess with the cool weather and it being nighttime, everyone gets the same craving for chicken in the evening haha.

This is what the shop looks like! It seems like they pre-fry the chicken for dakgangjeong and cook it once more when an order comes in!

There was already a line of waiting customers in front, and people kept ordering as they passed by — customers just never stopped coming haha! I think it was more so because it was dinner time!

Dakgangjeong sizes and menu prices at Gimssi Chicken

Gimssi Chicken's dakgangjeong comes in medium, large, and extra-large sizes! Extra-large was the biggest!

Seriously tasty-looking fried chicken visuals haha!

When a dakgangjeong order comes in, they cook it up into this delicious-looking sauced chicken visual!

Bone-in fried chicken was ₩9,900! These days even the cheapest chicken is over ₩10,000, but here it's exactly ten thousand won haha!

How ordering works: the number ticket system

Once you order, they give you a number ticket! When your food is ready, staff calls out your number! Then you check the number and pick it up — that was the system!

I took a photo of the menu items on display! First, old-school fried chicken for ₩7,000! Even at ₩7,000 it looks like a solid-sized bird, great value!

There was also a wing-and-drumstick combo! Considering they fry it fresh themselves, the price was pretty reasonable too!

What 19,000 won gets you: extra-large dakgangjeong plus 4 drumsticks

I picked it up and brought it home like this! I got 4 drumsticks and the medium-spicy extra-large dakgangjeong!

Open the lid and it looks this delicious! All this for ₩19,000! (dakgangjeong ₩13,000, drumsticks ₩6,000) What do you think of the price?! Isn't the portion seriously huge?! Considering a single piece of chicken breast fritter at a convenience store is ₩3,000, this is a genuinely great-value spread for under ₩20,000!

How spicy is medium-spicy? About the level of spicy Jin Ramen

First, the dakgangjeong! I ordered the 2nd-biggest of the 3 sizes! Eating this alone, it was plenty enough to split into 2 meals! It was the perfect amount for two people to share generously! The spice level was medium — just spicy enough that it wasn't a burden to keep eating! About as hot as spicy Jin Ramen?

The drumsticks were big, and especially once in my mouth, the chicken's soft texture was really nice!

There were plenty of rice cakes mixed in too!

Was the dakgangjeong still crispy an hour after takeout?

Even with the sauce coating it, it was genuinely crispy — even accounting for the 1-hour trip to pick up and bring home, the crispiness and flavor were seriously good! Plus the portion was so huge it was truly more than enough to eat alone!

There were bite-sized pieces like this too! And also really big chunks — I kept thinking, wow, you can really eat like this at this price!

In the photo it looks a bit soggy, but once you actually eat it, it's appropriately crispy and tasty!

The drumsticks are real whole-chicken drumsticks

Here's what the drumsticks look like! Not the tiny little drumstick you get in a chicken combo, but a genuine drumstick from a whole roasted chicken, which made it even more satisfying! Though of course, that's probably why it sells so well!

The batter was crispy too, so it was delicious!

Above all, the meat inside was so pale and looked incredibly delicious, and it really was soft in texture — I was glad I ordered it!

You could even tell from the bone that it wasn't a frozen drumstick!

I was in a good mood the whole time I was eating! I think it was even more so because it tasted so good!

Reheating the leftover chicken in an air fryer the next day

I thought I'd eaten quite a lot of the dakgangjeong, but this much was still left! In the end I ate about half and got full, so I saved the rest for the next day! The next day I reheated it in an air fryer, and it tasted almost the same as fresh — so I enjoyed it just as much!

Tearing into chicken while watching YouTube after work on a weekday evening feels so good. Gimssi Chicken isn't just cheap — it delivers on taste and quality too, so I think I'll be a regular here!
