In short
Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch is a made-to-order dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken bites) shop in the middle of Amsa Market in Gangdong, Seoul. The order here was a medium-large medium-spicy dakgangjeong and a medium-large fried boneless dakgangjeong packed half-and-half, and while the sauce was being tossed, the staff handed over a freshly fried skewer to eat warm on the spot. Amsa Market dakgangjeong fried only after you order, at Gimssi Chicken
Today was one of those days I was really craving dakgangjeong (sweet-spicy Korean fried chicken bites)!!! And not just the regular kind — the market-style kind, where the oil pot is bubbling away and they fry it the moment you order, then toss it evenly in sauce! Is there a dakgangjeong shop that doesn't have to give you anything extra, but goes out of their way to hand you a whole skewer of freshly fried chicken just so you can taste it hot?! There is, right heeere~!!! I went to Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch~
The combination of freshly fried, crackly-crisp dakgangjeong with juicy, moist meat inside, plus just the right amount of spice, felt like the textbook definition of dakgangjeong. The portion was generous and they handed over a whole skewer too, making it an even more enjoyable dakgangjeong spot~ Let's check it out through the review~

Where is Gimssi Chicken? Inside Amsa Market, near Amsa Station

Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch sits inside Amsa Market, which is clean and thoroughly modernized — and it's very close to Amsa Station too, so the view of the renovated market was really impressive~ Right in the middle of it all is Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch!

It was a dakgangjeong spot where customers kept streaming in nonstop, placing order after order

The interior is fully visible thanks to the open kitchen setup, so you can see the hygiene standards for yourself — the stainless-steel-clean look and the visible state of the oil gave me a lot of confidence~
The pride in being one of "Seoul's Top 3 Dakgangjeong" and the confident line about not being cheap because there's no reason to be expensive really raised my expectations

Menu and prices: bone-in fried chicken for 9,900 won, plus chicken by the cut
Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch had an affordable ₩9,900 for a whole bone-in fried chicken, and you could also pick cuts individually to suit your taste — old-style whole chicken, dakgangjeong, wings, drumettes, drumsticks. I also picked up some tips on how to enjoy dakgangjeong the best way~

Old-style whole chicken and drumsticks, wings and drumettes too

I wanted to try all the crispy-looking dakgangjeong too, but! On this day, dakgangjeong it was!
What we ordered at Gimssi Chicken
- Medium-spicy dakgangjeong, medium-large 0.9
- Fried boneless dakgangjeong, medium-large 0.8
Ordered their signature dakgangjeong, half fried and half sauced~
Weighed above the standard portion, and one hot skewer handed over free
They first piled up the freshly fried, piping hot fried chicken generously~ It was great to see them weigh it on a scale rather than relying on guesswork, giving more than the standard portion~
Then it was the sauced dakgangjeong's turn! They tossed it deliciously in the sauce with a shake-shake motion~ The deep reddish-black color of the medium-spicy version looked especially delicious~

Dakgangjeong evenly coated in sauce — wow, that looks good, I thought, and then

they casually, almost coolly(?), handed over a skewer — and since it was freshly fried and eaten right on the spot, it was super hot and crackly-crisp, genuinely delicious~ It made me want to hurry up and eat the rest of the dakgangjeong too!

Then they piled the sauced dakgangjeong up generously too~ and packing complete~ That deep reddish-black color really looks delicious, right?

Fried boneless dakgangjeong: thick whole cuts and crisp rice cakes
I couldn't resist and opened it up at a nearby rest area~ Starting with the crackly-crisp fried version first~!

Each piece of fried chicken was packed with thick whole cuts of meat, not scraps~

The meat inside was well-brined and packed full, so even though they gave me seasoning salt, the fried chicken was already well-seasoned and super delicious on its own~

The rice cakes fried in with the chicken had crispy exteriors and chewy insides, super satisfying~

One more piece! The crackly-crisp fried-style dakgangjeong was really thick and delicious~

How spicy is the medium-spicy sauced dakgangjeong?
Next, the sauced dakgangjeong~ The sauce wasn't thick and syrupy like corn syrup, but evenly coated, and it looked absolutely delicious~

The moist dakgangjeong, still holding onto its juices, tasted outstanding~

The meat was plump and full, so the combination of tender flesh and crispy fried coating was enjoyable, and the spiciness was just right~! That was the medium-spicy dakgangjeong~

Eating the rice cakes mixed in with the sauce alongside it made the chewy texture and crispiness enhance the dakgangjeong even more~

It had cooled down a bit because of the travel time, but even cooled off, the deep flavor made this Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch dakgangjeong even more enjoyable~ Ate it all up happily~!
Verdict: worth it if you want fried chicken near Amsa Station
I visited Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch, a dakgangjeong spot in Amsa Market~ Generous portions, affordable prices, and hygiene too! It was a dakgangjeong shop that exceeded what you'd expect from a market dakgangjeong place, plus that one skewer handed over so casually and coolly! A very satisfying dakgangjeong experience — and beyond the market-style dakgangjeong or whole roast chicken, you can also buy fried chicken by the cut, which made it even better! If you're looking for a chicken shop near Amsa Station, give Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch a visit~! Proper dakgangjeong and fried chicken await you~!
