What got me coloring again

Come to think of it, I don’t really have a hobby I’ve settled into, you know? A friend was showing off her coloring book, and I guess I really wanted to do one too. The moment I saw the SoulGoddess Coloring Book, I ordered it right away, haha.

Other than coloring as a child, I don’t think I’d really done it before. But even though I’m not especially good at it, I unexpectedly love drawing and coloring, so I thought I could have a lot of fun with a coloring book too. When it came time to color, though, I was stumped over which colors would look pretty. The SoulGoddess Coloring Book has a colored illustration beside each page, so it was easy because I could look at it as I colored. I don’t like the paint-by-numbers kind my friend does because it feels too mechanical, and I loved being able to add my own imagination as I colored!

I’d seen SoulGoddess products before, and it seems to be a brand created by someone famous for tarot. Since it has goddess illustrations—and I want to become a goddess myself—I’m going to diligently doodle away in this coloring book.

Goddess illustrations to carry around and reflect on the day

The SoulGoddess Coloring Book is bound like a book, so it’s easy to carry and doesn’t end up spread all over the place, which keeps it from feeling messy. Coloring my inner goddess gave me time to wrap up the day, and it made me feel more at ease.

There are all kinds of goddess illustrations along with fun little phrases, so you can read the words, color away, and feel your mind settle. If you don’t have a hobby that feels quite right, I think this could be a nice one to try at least once.

Giving the first goddess color and makeup

I’m starting with the goddess on the very first page. Funny enough, because I got to give her makeup too, the goddess illustration seemed more fun than an ordinary picture. I’ll feel so accomplished once I finish the SoulGoddess Coloring Book, right? I chose coloring as an adult hobby, but I thought it would also be wonderful for spending time with a young child!

Why it was fun even without many colored pencils

Since I’m only planning to keep this as a small hobby, I don’t have many kinds of colored pencils. That made it really hard to produce the exact same colors, but trying to match them as closely as I could was charming in its own way. When my friends heard I’d started coloring in a coloring book, they laughed at me at first, but after seeing what I did, they said they wanted to try it too. It feels like more than just a hobby—it seems to make me feel calmer and more composed psychologically—so these days I’ve been getting really into coloring alongside reading!

A first result I was happy with, despite the mistakes

I made a few mistakes while coloring, so it wasn’t quite the feeling I wanted. Still, compared with when I first picked up the colored pencils, I think it’s a result I’m happy with. Especially when adding gradients... the most fun was getting completely absorbed in coloring like a painter fooling around as if I were pouring my artistic soul into it (?)
