Mullae-dong's art village has gotten so hot lately, hasn't it! I wanted a proper date in the neighborhood after a while, so I went to Jojo Mullae Branch (죠죠 문래점), a Japanese pub with a great atmosphere ✨

Jojo Mullae Branch is a hip teppan (iron griddle) Japanese restaurant with an interior that feels like Japan and soft lighting. The moment I walked in, the Japan-style interior and trendy vibe stood out. The lighting is mellow, so it works for a lunch in Mullae and is just right for a drink in the evening!

You order on the tablet at each table, and we got the 2-person monjayaki set (몬자야끼 2인 세트) for ₩39,500. The set includes mentaiko (spicy pollock roe) monjayaki, karai yakisoba and waterfall potato, and it's really generous.

It looks hearty just sitting there 😋 The spread was the perfect amount for two on a Mullae-dong date! The lovely smell of teppan cooking drifted over, and I couldn't wait to eat the whole time I was taking photos, haha

Do the staff cook the mentaiko monjayaki for you?

Yes. After the dishes arrive, a staff member carefully cooks the mentaiko monjayaki on the griddle, so you just wait a moment. It was the dish I was most looking forward to, and since monjayaki takes quite a bit of work to cook, I was glad they did it for us!

They oil the hot griddle first, then deftly lay down the ingredients with flashy hands. The sizzling sound and the delicious smell as it browned on the warm griddle had me watching the whole time 🤤 It's fun to watch while chatting, and I felt coming here for a Mullae-dong date was the right call!

Mentaiko monjayaki scraped with a mini spoon

When the mentaiko monjayaki is nicely browned, you gently scrape it off the griddle with a special mini monjayaki spoon. The salty, nutty flavor of the popping roe fills your mouth, and the scraping is fun too, so I strongly recommend it as a snack with drinks near Mullae Station 👍🏻👍🏻 It was my first monjayaki and it suited my taste perfectly.

What does the karai yakisoba taste like?

The karai yakisoba (spicy fried noodles) is a salty yakisoba with a slight kick, and it's great alternating with the mentaiko monjayaki. When you've been eating only the nutty, soft monjayaki, you sometimes need a little refresh, and a bite of salty yakisoba is a perfect match 😋 Break the egg yolk and toss it through the noodles, and the savory flavor just explodes..‼️

The portion is generous and it's a flavor everyone likes, so if you're looking for a restaurant in Mullae Art Village or a pub near Mullae Station, I recommend adding it as a can't-fail side dish!

What is the waterfall potato that comes with the set?

The waterfall potato (폭포테이토) was the last dish in the 2-person set: smoothly mashed potato topped with a boiled egg. Mix the round mound of potato with a spoon and scoop up a big bite, and the fluffy potato and soft sauce melt in your mouth 😋 A bite now and then alongside the other dishes pairs really well!
