Omokgyo Chinese restaurant with mini tangsuyuk: Yugwanjang Banjeom

In short

Yugwanjang Banjeom Omokgyo Station Branch is a Chinese restaurant directly outside Exit 2 of Omokgyo Station in Yangcheon, Seoul. I tried gochujapchae rice, jajangmyeon, and mini tangsuyuk; the noodles were not overly sweet, and the ₩13,000 mini tangsuyuk had a thin, crisp coating.

I visited Yugwanjang Banjeom Omokgyo Station Branch (유관장반점 오목교역직영점) again after coming here several times near Omokgyo Station. This time, I ordered gochujapchae rice (stir-fried peppers and pork over rice), jajangmyeon, and mini tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour pork). I tend to eat small portions, so when I want just a little tangsuyuk, having a mini option makes ordering easy.

What are the solo-dining seats and group spaces like?

Every time I visited, I was struck by the green trees visible through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The interior felt comfortable with its window seating, and there were many customers dining alone. The restaurant is spacious enough for group meals, too.

There is also a private room that can seat up to 14 people. Since it lets a group dine separately, I made a note of it as a possible space for family gatherings or group dinners. I would like to use it for my next family gathering.

What did I order this time?

The restaurant's signature dish is jjamppong made with beef-bone broth, but I had tried it on my previous visit, so this time I chose gochujapchae rice and jajangmyeon. I added mini tangsuyuk as well. At the time of writing, jajangmyeon was ₩8,000 and mini tangsuyuk was ₩13,000.

I was also happy that kimchi came with the meal.

How did the gochujapchae rice and jajangmyeon taste?

The gochujapchae rice featured crisp green peppers and tender meat stir-fried in a spicy sauce. Mixing it with fluffy white rice brought the sauce's savory depth together nicely.

It was spicy and warming, but the finish still felt clean.

Jajangmyeon ordered as a meal at Yugwanjang Banjeom

The jajangmyeon was not overly sweet or aggressively seasoned. The rich flavor of stir-fried chunjang paired well with the chewy noodles, and my niece or nephew who came with me enjoyed it too.

How were the texture and sauce of the ₩13,000 mini tangsuyuk?

Because I eat small portions, I used to hesitate to order tangsuyuk even when I wanted only a few pieces. Here, I could choose the ₩13,000 mini portion, which worked well as an accompaniment to the meal.

The coating was thin and crisp, while the pork inside was mild and tender. I could also feel the juices when I chewed. I liked that the sweet-and-sour sauce came separately for dipping.
