Yangcheon Chinese restaurant with squid jjampong: Yugwanjang Banjeom
In short
Yugwanjang Banjeom Omokgyo Station Branch is a Chinese restaurant opposite Hyundai Department Store in Yangcheon, Seoul. I tried whole-cuttlefish jjampong and mini tangsuyuk; the clean spicy broth, generous seafood, and separately served sauce were the highlights.

After spending the whole day out, I stopped by Yugwanjang Banjeom Omokgyo Station Branch on my way home. I ordered whole-cuttlefish jjampong and mini tangsuyuk, and the large cuttlefish, clean broth, and crisp fried coating stayed with me.

Where is it near Omokgyo Station, and can you visit at night?
The restaurant is on the second floor of the building at 256 Mokdongdong-ro, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, directly in front of Omokgyo Station Exit 2. It was easy to find because it is opposite Hyundai Department Store Mokdong. The sign was brightly lit at night, and it was presented as open 24 hours when I visited. Nearby public parking is available.

What was the seating like for dining alone?
Inside, the seats were arranged neatly. Each place had a partition, which made it comfortable to eat alone. There were also doll decorations in the restaurant, and I could take as many side dishes as I needed from the self-service station.

How do you order, and what did I choose?
There was a tablet at each table, so I selected the dishes and placed the order myself. The menu was divided into noodles, rice, dishes, and sides. Along with jjampong and jjajang, it also featured a new menu item called dried-pollock jjampong. For the tangsuyuk, I could choose between small and mini sizes.

I chose whole-cuttlefish jjampong and mini tangsuyuk. When the food arrived, the size of the cuttlefish in the jjampong immediately caught my eye.

How much cuttlefish was in the jjampong, and how did the broth taste?
The cuttlefish came in whole, partially submerged in the broth. It was large and substantial, so I cut it into bite-sized pieces with tongs and scissors. As I cut it, the portion felt generous enough to make me wonder whether I could finish it all.

The broth was spicy and clean without being greasy. I could taste the refreshing flavor of the seafood, while the cuttlefish had a springy texture with every bite.
Was the mini tangsuyuk crisp, and was the sauce served separately?
The tangsuyuk was crisp on the outside and tender inside. The sauce came separately, so I could dip each piece, and I liked that the coating stayed crisp for a long time while I ate.

Eating the whole-cuttlefish jjampong with the mini tangsuyuk left me very full. In this meal, I was satisfied by the jjampong’s clean broth, the size of the cuttlefish, and the tangsuyuk’s crisp texture.
