Bar-table hanwoo sushi dinner in Geumcheon: Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo No.9
In short
Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo No.9 is a hanwoo (Korean beef) grill restaurant on the first floor of the Geumcheon Lotte Mart building in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul. Seated at the bar table, the writer had a staff member grill the hanwoo special set piece by piece, then ordered hanwoo sushi with wasabi and ankimo (monkfish liver), yukhoe bibimbap, hanwoo doenjang jjigae and hanwoo ramyeon. Because nobody had to watch the grill, Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo No.9 worked well as an anniversary dinner spot.

I wanted good hanwoo (Korean beef) for a special day, so I visited Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo. Instead of the usual casual grill place, I wanted a proper hanwoo experience this time, and from the overall vibe to the service, everything was calm and polished — I felt taken care of the whole meal.
Where is Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo No.9? First floor of the Geumcheon Lotte Mart building
Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo No.9 is in the Geumcheon Lotte Mart building, on the first floor of the Geumcheon Lotte Castle Gold Park 3-cha commercial complex, so it was easy to find. Once you're inside the building, the elevator takes you right to the restaurant, so even first-time visitors shouldn't have trouble finding it.
I booked ahead through Naver, and they kindly sent parking info in advance. It was convenient not having to search around for parking details beforehand — I could just follow the guidance I was given. That kind of thing matters more than you'd think if you're driving, so I appreciated getting it ahead of time.

The bar table seats and the mood inside
Walking into Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo No.9, the interior felt clean and tidy overall. I sat at the bar table that day, and it had a different vibe from a typical Korean BBQ table — actually quite calm and nice for a relaxed meal.
Near the entrance there was an eye-catching spot: stickers that had come attached to the meat delivered to the restaurant, stuck up on one wall. Being able to see what cuts had come in that day gave it a real sense of being a proper hanwoo specialist.
Around the restaurant, I also spotted quite a few autographs from celebrities and well-known figures. Not just one or two — there were several, which told me plenty of people have come through here before.
What's on the menu

Looking through the menu, true to being a hanwoo specialist, there was a wide range of beef dishes. From the hanwoo special set, where you can enjoy several cuts at once, to individual cut-by-cut options, there was plenty to choose from depending on your preference.

Side dishes, including ankimo and cockles
Once seated, the meat came out along with neatly arranged basic side dishes. There was a nice variety to pair with the hanwoo before it arrived.
Among the side dishes were anglerfish liver (ankimo) and cockles. The anglerfish-based side was a nice change from the usual grill-restaurant banchan, and the cockles had a chewy texture that went well between bites of meat.

The hanwoo special set: sirloin, sirloin cap, chuck flap and skirt
What I ordered that day was the hanwoo special set. The set is made up of sirloin, sirloin cap (saeu-sal), chuck flap (salchi-sal), and skirt (chima-sal), and I was told the latter three cuts can vary depending on the day's stock.

The nice thing about the hanwoo special set is getting to try several cuts at once. Each cut has slightly different texture and flavor, so it was fun grilling and comparing them one by one. The shoulder cut was really delicious.
Staff grill every piece for you
What stood out most was that the staff grill each piece of meat for you personally. At a typical grill restaurant you order the meat and have to keep an eye on it on the pan while trying to talk, but here the staff grilled every piece, so I barely had to think about the meat at all during the meal.
They adjusted the doneness to suit each cut and served it right when it was ready to eat, which made things really easy. On an anniversary, the food matters, but so does the time spent talking with the person you're with — and with staff grilling for us, we could focus on each other. Hanwoo especially changes in flavor and texture depending on doneness, so having it grilled for me meant a much more relaxed meal than constantly flipping it myself.

Hanwoo sushi with wasabi and ankimo
I also tried the hanwoo sushi, and it was really good.

I tried it with various pairings. With wasabi it got a clean, sharp edge, and with ankimo it took on a soft, savory richness that worked really well. The flavor changed with each pairing, so I got to enjoy several different combinations.

Since they grill each piece for you, you can eat it the moment it lands on the plate. It didn't feel like the meal kept getting interrupted by grilling — instead I could focus and eat slowly, which made it feel well suited to a special occasion.
Rice course: yukhoe bibimbap
After eating enough hanwoo, we ordered a rice dish too.

First I tried the yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef mixed rice), which was a nice change of pace after eating just meat for a while. Mixing the raw beef, rice, and vegetables together gave a different texture from the grilled meat, and it was filling enough as a meal on its own. The minari (water dropwort) was wonderfully fragrant too!
Hanwoo doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew)

The dish that personally stuck with me most was the hanwoo doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). True to its name, it had a generous amount of beef inside. Usually when you order doenjang jjigae at a grill restaurant it comes with just a few bits of meat, but here it was packed with beef, making it great to eat with rice.

The meat was as soft as braised beef and genuinely delicious 🤍
Finishing with hanwoo ramyeon

We also ordered hanwoo ramyeon (instant noodles) together. Ending the meal with a spicy, warm bowl of noodles after all that meat felt like a natural way to close things out.
Also, they're currently running a 3rd anniversary event — write a review and you can pick one menu item to try for free! If you're planning a visit, be sure to check out the event benefits too :)
