Doksan-dong beef restaurant with yukhoe bibimbap: Ddeum Sukseong No.9
In short
Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo No.9 is a hanwoo (Korean beef) grill restaurant on the first floor of the Lotte Castle Gold Park 3 shopping arcade in Doksan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, near Geumcheon-gu Office Station. Three high school friends shared the Hanwoo Special Set (145,000 won), grilled over charcoal by the owner himself, then finished with yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl) and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). The beef was excellent, but the mild, unfussy bibimbap and stew at Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo No.9 were the real surprise.

It's been a while since I met up with my high school friends near Geumcheon-gu Office Station, and this time we absolutely destroyed some hanwoo (Korean beef). Here's the post!

Back in high school, with our sad little budgets, we could only afford cheap thin-sliced pork belly at those bargain places — and even then, we could never eat our fill. So it really hit me, being at an age where I can now eat hanwoo (even if it's sponsored) haha.

We had a reservation, and once you book, the owner personally texts you the parking spot and directions to the restaurant!

What does the Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo No.9 storefront look like?

It shares the building with a Lotte Mart, and the building itself is huge, so the interior and exterior both look really clean!!! Being a well-known spot, plenty of celebrities and influencers have visited — Ali, Yoo Min-sang, Sim Eu-deum, and more haha (Yoo Min-sang seems to show up everywhere, it's uncanny).

Inside Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo No.9: seating for 2, 4 or 6

Inside, Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo No.9 has a mix of booth seats and tables. It wasn't as spacious as I expected, but with 2-, 4-, and 6-person tables available, it looked fine for families or groups of friends. If you're looking for a good spot in Doksan-dong to go with friends or a date, this could be it haha.

What comes with the 145,000 won Hanwoo Special Set?

Everything on the menu at Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo No.9 is hanwoo. Since there were three of us, we started with the Hanwoo Special Set (₩145,000) and figured we'd order more if it wasn't enough! The aged striploin caught my eye, but I forgot to try it that day — kind of a bummer.

The side dishes and table setting came out pretty simple, but they gave us complimentary rice with vinegar water, cockle salad, and anglerfish liver salad on the house! Putting the anglerfish liver on top of the rice was genuinely delicious haha.

Charcoal grilling by the owner: eating the hanwoo

Ah, the gorgeous look of the beef... haha. I usually prefer pork, but beef every once in a while is just so good haha.

They laid the marbled 1++ grade beef, which looked top quality at a glance, onto great-looking charcoal and started grilling!
The owner grilled the beef for us personally. Same goes for pork, but beef especially seems to taste different depending on who's grilling it — if you feel like you're bad at grilling meat yourself, I'd definitely recommend visiting a place like Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo where they grill it for you haha.

They grilled it perfectly bite-sized, and we all enjoyed it with my friends haha.
Why the yukhoe bibimbap and doenjang jjigae were even better
The beef was really delicious and I loved it, but honestly, what I want to praise even more about Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo No.9 is this — the yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl) and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) we ordered as sides!!!

The yukhoe bibimbap came out looking somewhat pale, and the doenjang jjigae also didn't look like what you'd typically expect, so before tasting it, I thought 'wait, isn't this going to be too bland?' Total misjudgment!! It was seriously, incredibly delicious haha. The yukhoe bibimbap uses a special sauce that isn't overpowering, so you can really taste the umami of the hanwoo itself along with the nutty flavor of perilla oil. I have to admit this is a genuine Doksan-dong must-eat spot.

The doenjang jjigae had this curious flavor, somewhere between beef radish soup and doenjang jjigae. I think because the ingredients are so fresh and high quality, they deliberately skip strong spices or seasonings and stay true to the ingredients' natural flavor — and I really liked that.
Is Ddeum Sukseong Hanwoo No.9 worth it? Final verdict

I've had beef at a lot of places lately, and the beef itself here was outstanding, plus the side dishes that came with it (especially the anglerfish liver) were clean and tasty. As I mentioned, the yukhoe bibimbap and doenjang jjigae were unique and delicious enough that if I worked nearby, I'd come here just for lunch haha.
If I had to give scores!!!
