Family-friendly Daegu gukbap spot with grilled pork cheek: Don Gukbap
In short
Don Gukbap is a pork gukbap (pork and rice soup) restaurant on Oksan-ro 7-gil near Buk-gu Office in Buk-gu, Daegu, that also serves great-value grilled dwitgogi (pork off-cuts). Three adults and a baby ordered pork gukbap, lean-meat gukbap, 4 servings of grilled pork cheek and jowl (ppol-hangjeongsal) and a 2-serving platter of pork neck (deolmisal), then filled up on self-bar tteokbokki and sundae (Korean blood sausage) plus complimentary fried rice. With its 100% sagol bone broth and generous portions, Don Gukbap is worth a return visit with a little one.

Some days you just want a steaming bowl of gukbap (Korean soup with rice), and other days you want to grill up a ton of meat too, right? This time I went to Don Gukbap in Buk-gu, a place that satisfies both cravings at once.

It's a local favorite near Buk-gu Office — a pork gukbap specialist that also lets you enjoy great-value grilled meat, which made for a pretty satisfying visit!
Location and parking at Don Gukbap
Don Gukbap is located at 8 Oksan-ro 7-gil, Buk-gu, Daegu, South Korea, near Buk-gu Office. There's no dedicated parking lot, but roadside parking around the restaurant was available, and we managed to park without much trouble.
A cozy, local atmosphere

The inside of Don Gukbap isn't big — just three 4-person tables and one 2-person table, a cozy-sized restaurant. But that actually made it feel more comfortable, like the kind of local spot regulars drop by often.
The owner was kind too, and the whole place had a warm, friendly vibe. While we were eating, the customers at the next table absolutely adored our baby — they even fed her a bit — and when we finished eating, we all exchanged smiles and goodbyes on the way out.
5 reasons I want to revisit Don Gukbap, a Buk-gu favorite
① Rich broth made from 100% beef bones

We were told the broth at Don Gukbap isn't flavored with additives — it's 100% beef bones simmered down into a rich stock. After eating, you get that deep, lingering beef-bone aftertaste that leaves you feeling full and satisfied all the way through. If you love bone broth, you'll know exactly that feeling.
② The grilled meat is a really great value

I went in thinking it was just a gukbap place, so I was surprised at how reasonable the grilled meat prices were. It's the kind of price range where you can order a bunch of different cuts without worrying and still eat your fill.
③ Every side dish is delicious

The side dishes come out neatly arranged, and the kimchi in particular was really good. It paired well with the gukbap and went just as well with the grilled meat.
④ Tteokbokki and sundae at a self-bar

A totally unexpected perk! You can help yourself to tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and sundae (Korean blood sausage) from the self-bar, and it was surprisingly tasty. It's great to snack on while waiting for the gukbap, and it's a menu kids would love too. So good!
⑤ You get to enjoy gukbap and grilled meat together

Sometimes gukbap alone feels a little lacking, and sometimes meat alone leaves you wanting something warm in your stomach — here you get to enjoy both at once, which was a really big plus. A place that satisfies both a hearty meal and a proper night out at the same time!
Order for 3 adults + 1 baby
We visited as 3 adults + 1 baby and ordered pork gukbap, lean meat gukbap, 4 servings of cheek and jowl pork, and 2 servings of neck meat grilled on the plate.

The portions were more generous than expected, and we left really full. It's not just meat, either — when you order grilled meat, it comes with potato, onion, zucchini, ham, and mushroom to grill alongside it.

It was so much more satisfying and varied than just eating meat on its own. Grilling the vegetables alongside made the whole spread feel even more complete and filling.
Pork gukbap and lean meat gukbap that won me over with their rich bone broth
We were told that Don Gukbap's pork gukbap and lean meat gukbap use only genuine beef bone broth with no additives. One spoonful in, I immediately thought, 'ah, this is the real thing' — that deep flavor. The heavy, savory character you get from long-simmered bone broth lingered in my mouth the whole meal, and it felt really hearty.

Our baby, who's usually a picky eater, ate the gukbap really well that day, which made it even more satisfying. I thought it was a Buk-gu restaurant that's genuinely good to visit with a child. (We used our own portable high chair for the baby.)

Fry the complimentary rice right on the grill
The owner gave us a complimentary fried rice... I mixed it up and ate it so well I scraped the bowl clean, and when I looked at the next table, they were frying their rice right on the grill plate and enjoying it that way.
Fry the rice on the grill plate — it looks like it would be really delicious, because... even just mixed by hand, it was already that good.

This is a Buk-gu favorite I'd want to revisit whenever I want a proper bowl of gukbap and some great-value grilled meat on the side. Rich bone broth, generous meat, tasty side dishes, self-serve tteokbokki and sundae, and that warm, friendly atmosphere on top. If you're looking for a hearty, satisfying meal, I think a visit here would hit the spot.
