Burger restaurant in Mapo, Seoul for grilled patties: Quokka Bite

In short

Quokka Bite is a burger restaurant in a lane near Gongdeok and Daeheung stations in Mapo, Seoul. A friend and I ordered the Grilled Quokka Burger and Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger sets with onion rings; the compact interior was a drawback, but the smoky grilled patty and plump whole shrimp stood out.

My friend and I stopped by Quokka Bite near Gongdeok Station for lunch. I had noticed this burger restaurant while walking along Gyeongui Line Forest Park, and this time we tried the Grilled Quokka Burger and Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger sets.

Introduction to Quokka Bite near Gyeongui Line Forest Park

Where is Quokka Bite?

The address is 11 Baekbeom-ro 24-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It is in a lane near Gongdeok and Daeheung stations, and close to Sogang University. You need to turn into a side street from Gyeongui Line Forest Park, so it is worth checking the location before your first visit.

Its red-and-white striped sign caught my eye even from a distance. This was the restaurant I had been curious about on my walks.

What are the outdoor and indoor seats like?

There were green tables and chairs outside. I thought it would be nice to eat outdoors in good weather. Pets are allowed only at the outdoor seats.

There was also a menu board outside, so I could look over the menu before going in.

Inside, the restaurant was decorated with white tiled walls and wood-toned tables.

The interior was not large, but it looked suitable for a meal with about two to four people.

On one wall, I saw items that looked like certificates and medals. I was unable to confirm exactly what the certificates were for.

A shelf displayed quokka plush toys, photos, hats, and other props, which were fun to look at.

Next to the counter was an organizer for napkins and sauces, along with quokka-shaped stickers.

There was a dedicated restroom inside, which made it convenient to wash my hands after eating a burger. It was also kept clean when I visited.

How much are the burger sets and side upgrades?

We ordered at a kiosk. The restaurant says that every menu item is cooked to order.

The menu included the Grilled Quokka Burger, Avocado Steak Quokka Burger, Nashville Quokka Hot Chicken, and Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger. They could be ordered individually or as a burger, side, and drink set, with a choice of French fries or onion rings for the side.

  • Grilled Quokka Burger set: ₩13,900
  • Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger set: ₩15,900
  • Switching the side to onion rings: add ₩1,000 per set

We changed the side in both sets to onion rings. Prices are as recorded in the original post at the time of the visit.

What did the Grilled Quokka Burger and onion rings taste like?

The Grilled Quokka Burger came in a golden-brown bun with a beef patty, bacon, tomato, and lettuce. On my first bite, I could taste the smoky aroma of the flame-grilled patty.

With both a beef patty and bacon, it was a combination I would choose when I was craving meat.

The onion rings had a thin, crisp coating. They did not feel greasy to me, and I finished them with ketchup.

What stood out about the Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger?

The menu I was looking forward to most that day was the Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger.

The whole shrimp had more presence than I expected, and their plump texture stayed with me. It also had a generous amount of coleslaw made with red onion. It felt like a large portion, but I finished it with the cola from the set.

Seeing the two burgers side by side, I thought they would be good to cut in half and share with the person you came with.

My friend especially liked the shrimp burger too. The interior was compact, but we had a filling lunch with the burger sets, and I would choose the Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger again.
