Lately, while managing my diet, I've been looking for meals that are filling and tasty rather than just eating super light 🥗

This time I packed a protein box to go from Why Starve Diet Gongdeok Main Branch in Gongdeok! Why Starve sells not just protein boxes but also salads, poke and various other diet menu items — apparently the place pursues a healthy, tasty approach to dieting rather than simply cutting portions.

What makes a protein box different from a salad

What I liked especially about the protein box is that it has more protein than a salad, and combines meat, carbs and various vegetables together, making it good as a full meal. They said every protein box comes with 150g or more of meat, which seemed great for people who work out or make a point of getting enough protein 💪

Ordering and packing at the store

At the store you order easily through a kiosk, and the staff were friendly too, which felt nice :) The atmosphere was easygoing enough for solo dining, so it looked like a good spot for nearby office workers to stop by for lunch or dinner after work.

This time I ordered two menu items to go!

Both dishes had meat and vegetables together with the pasta, so the portions looked more generous than I expected. I brought them home and dug in properly — curious how they'd actually taste 👀💕

Salmon pasta protein box + wasabi mayo

Tasting notes 🍝🥗 First, the salmon pasta protein box had big chunks of salmon, so I could really taste the clean, nutty flavor of the salmon with each bite. The salmon wasn't dry at all — it had a soft, flaky texture that went well with the pasta!

The pasta noodles were properly chewy and mild-tasting, so they matched well with the salmon. When I added the wasabi mayo sauce I'd picked, the slight kick of wasabi combined with the nutty mayonnaise made it even tastier 😋 The wasabi also cut through any potential richness from the salmon — personally I thought it was a great combination.

Smoked duck pasta protein box + chili mayo

The smoked duck pasta protein box had that distinctive salty, savory smoked duck flavor, offering a totally different taste from the salmon. Eating the duck with the pasta felt hearty, and mixed in with broccoli, cabbage and paprika, the crunchy texture kept things from getting monotonous 🥦

Adding the chili mayo sauce brought a subtly spicy-sweet, nutty flavor that paired really well with the smoked duck. It was definitely tastier with the sauce than eating it plain!

Overall, this wasn't the light, salad-only kind of taste — you get pasta with meat and vegetables together, making it a pretty filling one-meal option. Both menu items change depending on the sauce you choose, so it seems easy to pick according to your taste 😊

Verdict: who this suits best

Verdict 🥗 When people think of dieting, they often picture small, bland salads first, but the protein box at Why Starve Gongdeok had a surprisingly generous composition that worked well as a full meal!

With protein options like salmon and smoked duck, plus pasta, broccoli, cabbage, paprika, beans and other vegetables all together, there was fun in picking through the different components too. I especially liked that even packed to go, the food was arranged neatly 😊

I chose wasabi mayo for the salmon pasta protein box and chili mayo for the smoked duck pasta protein box, and with the sauce, it definitely didn't have that bland, typical diet-food feel — it was genuinely tasty.

This seems like a great fit for people who want to manage their diet while still getting decent taste and portion size, rather than just eating as little as possible. It worked well as an office lunch, a post-workout meal, or solo dining 🥦💚 If you've gotten tired of just poke or salad, this is a good spot to visit when you want something more filling with a protein box!
