Gijang set-meal restaurant with 2 cockle sides: Kkomak Hansang

In short

Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch is a dried corvina and cockle set-meal restaurant on Gijanghaean-ro in Gijang, Busan. On a family trip to Gijang, the writer ordered the dried corvina set for two, which brought one whole corvina per person, pollack pancake, seaweed soup and 12 side dishes, including a soy-based cockle relish and a spicy cockle salad. Nothing tasted fishy, and even the family's one-year-old asked for more, making Kkomak Hansang an easy family meal.

What kind of restaurant is Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch?

Today's restaurant pick: Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch.

Clink~ :-) We stopped by Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch while traveling around Gijang with family, for a set meal of dried corvina (bori gulbi) with cockle side dishes. It's right next to Oshiria Lotte Outlet and Lotte World, so the route worked out really well. From the chewy, tender flesh of the dried corvina to the cockle side dishes clearly made with care, we had a delicious meal together as a family. It was easy to visit with a baby in Gijang and everyone could actually eat the food together, which was great.

The lighting and tables feel so nice, right? The picture window shows a lush green park view, which makes the atmosphere even better. There are group tables and partitioned tables too, so it seemed perfect for company dinners or family gatherings with several people.

Today's order: the dried corvina set for two.

You get a full set with a main dish plus 12 side dishes. On weekdays you can also order the cockle bibimbap as a single dish for better value, priced in the ₩10,000s so it's not much of a burden. I originally meant to order the cockle bibimbap set. But I got tempted after seeing the guide on how to enjoy dried corvina and changed my mind on the spot. Since it's a full set, the cockle relish and spicy cockle salad come along too, so it's more varied and filling.

The full table: 12 side dishes at Kkomak Hansang

After a short wait, the whole spread was laid out. Wow, true to its name it really was a full table setting, more generous than I expected, which surprised me a little. Two dried corvinas as the main, seaweed soup, plus 12 side dishes filled the table completely. A lot of restaurants just pile on the number of side dishes, but here every single one was clearly its own dish. All of them looked neat and appetizing, which raised my expectations even more!

The side dishes included kimchi, seasoned greens, salad, fritters, jelly, and pancakes, plus not one but two kinds of cockle side dishes. The seaweed soup had fish in it and came in a generous portion. I'd already been debating the cockle salad set, so I was glad it showed up as a plentiful side dish too — and the portions were pretty large for sides.

Dried corvina served one per person with pollack pancake

The main dish: one dried corvina per person plus pollack pancake. Rice is included, and there's green tea to pour over rice too. And look how plump and big the dried corvina is!

How the dried corvina tasted, and could the baby eat it?

Dried corvina split in half and flaked with plastic gloves

They give you plastic gloves too, which made it easy to handle. The corvina itself only has large bones, so you can separate the flesh easily on your own. Split in half, you can see even more plump, meaty flesh! Plump and firm — it looked so delicious.

Grilled and steamed so the outside is golden and the inside stays moist, you get both a crispy, savory texture and a chewy, soft one at the same time, which made it even better. Seasoned just right and clean-tasting, it was delicious. It's not salty even eaten plain, so it's easy to enjoy. Paired with rice, you'll polish off a whole bowl! Especially poured over green tea rice, the flavor turned fresh and savory in a way that suited it perfectly. I usually can't eat fishy fish, you know? This had zero fishy taste and was so delicious. Even my one-year-old ate it happily and kept banging the table for more, haha. Kkamja usually spits out fishy fish. This time she was even trying to pick up the pieces that fell.

Two cockle side dishes: soy relish and spicy salad

The cockle side dishes could be called a secondary main dish. You get to enjoy two concepts, a soy-based relish and a red spicy salad, which was even more satisfying! The cockles themselves were plump and fresh to start. And the seasoning added to them was genuinely amazing... The spicy salad had a perfect balance of sweet, sour, and spicy, so even the radish alone was delicious. Mixed into rice, you'd finish the whole bowl! The soy-based side dish was properly seasoned with a salty-sweet sauce all the way through — a total rice thief.

Even the pollack pancake was plump, soft, and savory, and the seaweed soup broth was really rich too. Even the seasoning on the seasoned greens was delicious, and to finish off every side dish, we added extra rice ❤️

Final verdict: is Kkomak Hansang good for a family meal in Gijang?

Table at Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch after finishing the meal

From the dried corvina to the cockles, we ate a full, satisfying set and it was a great meal. The fish was chewy, moist, and had zero fishy taste, which made it excellent on its own, and the cockle salad side was so good I wished I lived close enough to get it to go. Especially for eating with a kid like we did, it was great that there were many clean, non-salty dishes like the fish, seaweed soup, and pancakes. The location is also right near Yonggungsa, Lotte World, and Oshiria Lotte Outlet. It fits perfectly into the route for a meal after sightseeing on a Gijang trip. If you're looking for a Korean set-meal restaurant good for eating with family in Gijang, drop by Kkomak Hansang! Bye bye then :-)
