Korean restaurant in Sokcho for sundae takeout: Hwangbuja Twigim
In short
Hwangbuja Twigim is a Korean restaurant in Sokcho Central Market where I packed half-and-half sundae and seed shrimp gangjeong to eat at my accommodation. The Abai sundae was generously filled and tender, while the crispy-bottomed squid sundae was distinctive; the neat packaging was good, but I regretted not trying it while warm.

Where is Hwangbuja Twigim in Sokcho?
During my trip to Sokcho, I stopped by the Central Market and got sundae and shrimp gangjeong to go from Hwangbuja Twigim (황부자튀김). The shop is in units 26 and 27 of Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market. According to the original post, it is open from 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM and closed every Tuesday.

How much were the half-and-half sundae and shrimp gangjeong?
There were set options on the menu, too. I preferred Abai sundae, while my companion wanted crispy squid sundae, so we ordered half of each. I was also curious about the texture of the crispy squid sundae, which was introduced as a new menu item at the time.

- Crispy squid sundae + Abai sundae: ₩20,000
- Small seed shrimp gangjeong: ₩10,000

How was the sundae cooked and packed?
After I ordered and waited, they cooked the sundae right away on a large griddle. I was hungry, so the smell of oil spreading around made me want to eat it even more.

Ordering the half-and-half portion meant my companion and I could both have the sundae we wanted.

The packaging was neat, and it was warm when I received it. I did not taste it right away because I planned to eat it at my accommodation, but later I regretted missing the chance to try it while it was warm.

How were the sundae and shrimp gangjeong at my accommodation?
After eating snow crab, I returned to my accommodation and laid out the takeout food as a late-night meal. I had buldak-bokkeum-myeon (spicy stir-fried chicken noodles) and sesame ramen alongside it.

How was the filling and texture of the Abai sundae?
The Abai sundae was generously filled and tender to chew. It had the familiar flavor of traditional sundae. I do not like sundae with a dry filling or too much glass noodle, but this one had a substantial, tender filling that I enjoyed.

How did the crispy squid sundae differ from regular squid sundae?
The crispy squid sundae was cooked with its bottom lightly crisped, like nurungji (scorched rice). That texture made it feel different from regular squid sundae.

How was the portion and flavor of the small seed shrimp gangjeong?
Even though I ordered the small seed shrimp gangjeong, the portion felt generous to me. The shrimp was well coated in a sweet sauce, with some spiciness too. I enjoyed it even after it had cooled.
I liked being able to get both kinds of sundae and the shrimp gangjeong to go from one place. It suited a late-night meal shared with several foods at my accommodation, though I wish I had also tried the sundae right after it was packed, while warm.
