In short
Geumrang Hoetjip Gwangalli Main Branch is a sashimi restaurant with a Gwangan Bridge view on the 6th floor of Marine Rich in Gwangalli, Suyeong, Busan. On a weekend trip to Busan, two diners ordered the Subyeon Hansang set (60,000 won per person) for lunch and were served abalone porridge, live octopus, soy-marinated shrimp, steamed abalone, mixed sashimi, spicy fish stew and fish roe rice in turn, then walked along Gwangalli Beach afterward. Is Geumrang in Gwangalli worth it for a weekend lunch?
Geumrang (금랑횟집) is a Gwangalli sashimi restaurant with a full view of Gwangan Bridge, and I stopped by for lunch during a weekend trip to Busan. Its Subyeon Hansang set (a full-table course) comes with lots of seafood dishes besides the sashimi and is well known, so I went for that.
Having tried it, the sashimi, seafood and closing meal all came out in order and the portions were generous, which made it a satisfying meal. I could see why local diners come here as well as travelers.

Gwangan Bridge view at lunch and a beach walk afterward
I visited at lunchtime, and the sea stretching out beyond the window put me in a good mood even before the food arrived.

After the meal, it was nice to stroll slowly along Gwangalli beach. Good sashimi followed by a beach walk makes it a fine stop on a Busan trip. Enjoying the food and the sea view together was what stood out about this Gwangalli restaurant.

This day I ordered the Subyeon Hansang for two.
What do the Subyeon Hansang starters (skidaeshi) look like?
The Subyeon Hansang table was set with dishes one after another, starting with the basics, and there were more kinds than I expected, so it beat my expectations.

It began with abalone porridge, seaweed soup, steamed egg, corn cheese and mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), followed by fresh seafood like spoon worm, sea squirt, shrimp and sea cucumber, plus octopus, live octopus, soy-marinated shrimp, cheese-baked scallops, salmon salad and steamed abalone.

If you're looking for a Gwangalli sashimi restaurant with generous starters, this lineup should satisfy you.
Steamed abalone, live octopus and soy shrimp
The steamed abalone in the Subyeon Hansang was tender and quite large, so each bite was plump. The live octopus tasted nutty and fresh, clinging to the mouth, and got more savory the more I chewed.
The soy-marinated shrimp (saeujang), with its sweet-salty flavor, was already peeled, so it was easy to eat.

Sea cucumber, spoon worm and cheese scallops
The crunchy sea cucumber and the chewy spoon worm, which turns sweeter as you chew, were freshness itself.

The scallops were piled with cheese, which made them even more savory.
Subyeon Hansang mixed sashimi: fish and flavor
Right after the starters, the Subyeon Hansang mixed sashimi came out, and it caught my eye from the first look.

Flounder, red sea bream, olive flounder and sea bass were neatly arranged, and the portion was quite generous.

The premium fish was cut to a good thickness with a pleasant chew, and it was clean with no fishy taste, so I enjoyed it to the end.

Gonowata seaweed wraps and DIY sushi
Gonowata (sea cucumber innards) also came with the sashimi and went well with it. Dipping the fish generously in gonowata and wrapping it in seaweed was different and delicious.

Rice came with the sashimi too, so it was fun to make my own sushi.

Closing meal: spicy stew, roe rice, corn tempura and merou steak
After the sashimi, the Subyeon Hansang finished with spicy fish stew (maeuntang), roe rice, fried food and merou steak, and I was happy with that ending.
The merou steak had a lovely flavor with its sweet, nutty sauce, and the tempura was corn, with an addictive sweet-and-salty taste.
The roe rice crisped golden in a hot stone pot was a treat too, and together with the spicy stew it made a filling finish.
To sum up
Geumrang in Gwangalli let me enjoy a generous Subyeon Hansang course with a Gwangan Bridge view. If you're looking for a Gwangalli sashimi restaurant with a nice sea view during a Busan trip, it's worth a visit.
