At Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch, a Korean BBQ restaurant in Yangju, I had pork ribs and complimentary Hamheung naengmyeon (cold noodles in the Hamheung style). When you order meat, the naengmyeon is ₩0, so it is good value and tastes decent too—no wonder it is especially popular with locals.

Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch in Mansong-dong, Yangju, is a Korean BBQ restaurant with a range of meats besides handmade Korean pork ribs, including fresh beef ribs and marinated beef ribs. There are meal dishes too, such as galbitang (beef short-rib soup) and yukhoe bibimbap (rice mixed with raw beef). Compared with the many Korean BBQ restaurants in Yangju, its point of difference is the complimentary house-made naengmyeon. It has the fine, chewy gray noodles characteristic of Hamheung naengmyeon and a broth with subtle savory depth. On top of that, there is a generous table spread including yukjeon (pan-fried beef) and yukhoe (seasoned raw beef)! It makes for a really satisfying meal.

The restaurant occupies a spacious, clean two-story building, making it just right for anyone looking for a family weekend meal spot or a good-value Korean BBQ restaurant for a group gathering.

Manpo Galbi handmade Korean pork rib menu

Manpo Galbi's signature menu item is handmade Korean pork ribs: 250 g for ₩19,000. It uses 100% rib cuts, so you get to eat the meat and gnaw on the bone too. On weekday lunches, there is a set meal for ₩19,000 per person that includes handmade marinated ribs, brisket soybean-paste rice soup, and naengmyeon. There are meat options including 250 g of fresh beef ribs for ₩38,000 and marinated beef ribs as well!

Notice for complimentary Hamheung naengmyeon with a meat order

A key point at Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch: Hamheung naengmyeon is free when you order meat. In my photo, you can see that both mul-naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth) and bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) are listed at ₩0. You can order one per person, and the portion was a little more generous than the dessert naengmyeon served at other restaurants.

This is the basic table spread that comes with two servings of pork ribs at Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch. Everything arrives neatly plated and nicely arranged.

The table spread includes sample portions of yukhoe and yukjeon, along with salad and shredded onion. As you would expect from a Korean BBQ restaurant, the side dishes pair well with the meat: crunchy pickles, potato salad, green chili pepper and garlic dressed in doenjang (fermented soybean paste), seasoned scallions, and seasoned shredded radish. It is a generous spread.

Most of all, the yukjeon and yukhoe make the table spread look even more abundant!

The side dishes were neatly served in bowls, so they looked good and tasted good too.

Trying the pork ribs and Hamheung naengmyeon

You grill the meat yourself on the grate. The charcoal was good, so the meat cooked beautifully!

I tried a piece of nicely cooked pork rib. The marinade was not overpowering; its gentle sweetness and saltiness were well balanced.

It is heavenly with shredded onion, and delicious over a bowl of white rice too!

The reason to eat pork ribs is to gnaw on the bone, of course. I made sure to get every bit off it. The texture is wonderfully chewy.

Spicy, earthy brisket soybean-paste stew

The stew is an extra order, and there are brisket doenjang jjigae (soybean-paste stew) and brisket doenjang sulbap (soybean-paste rice soup)! I ordered the stew, and its spicy, peppery, earthy broth made it impossible not to mix in rice!

Naengmyeon is the perfect finish to pork ribs, of course. This house-made Hamheung naengmyeon had seriously good noodles. The gray noodles, made with sweet-potato starch, were fine and chewy. Rather than being intensely sweet, the broth had a subtle sweet-and-tangy flavor.

Fine, chewy Hamheung mul-naengmyeon

There is also bibim-naengmyeon with a special sweet-and-tangy sauce. Choose whichever suits your taste!

I liked the mul-naengmyeon even more because I could taste deep savory richness in the broth.

It is even more heavenly with a piece of meat on top!

For dessert, there is bbeongtwigi (puffed-rice snack) ice cream and coffee thoughtfully served with cups of ice. You can enjoy a generous meal from start to finish.
