Pizza to go for a Mangwon Han River picnic: Pizza Never Sleeps

In short

Pizza Never Sleeps Hapjeong-Sangsu is an American-style pizza restaurant with handmade dough, between Hapjeong Station and Mangwon Hangang Park in Mapo, Seoul. Over lunch, the writer and her boyfriend shared a large minari (Korean water dropwort) gochujang pork belly pizza, ate two slices each and were full, and Pizza Never Sleeps packed the leftovers neatly. The spicy gochujang pork belly and minari pairing is unusual but delicious, making it the pizza to order on a first visit, with the leftovers ready for a Han River picnic.

Pizza Never Sleeps is my pick for a Hapjeong Station pizza-and-beer spot near Hongdae! There are only three branches nationwide, and it's famous in my neighborhood, so I'd been dying to try it. My boyfriend and I came out to Hapjeong Station, the Hapjeong-Sangsu branch looked like a great vibe, so we went straight in for a pizza lunch~ It's also close to Mangwon Hangang Park, so I'd recommend it for picnic takeout too. Here's my review of Pizza Never Sleeps!

How do you get to Pizza Never Sleeps Hapjeong-Sangsu?

Exterior of Pizza Never Sleeps near Hapjeong Station

Pizza Never Sleeps Hapjeong-Sangsu is close to Hapjeong Station and Mangwon Hangang Park, so it's easy to reach on foot, a great food stop near the park. If you're driving, the Hapjeong 1 public parking lot is the closest, so park there.

What are the atmosphere and seating like?

Sunlit 2nd-floor interior of Pizza Never Sleeps

The Hapjeong-Sangsu branch is on the 2nd floor, so it gets lots of natural light, and the tables are spaced far apart, which made eating comfortable. If you're looking for a nice Hongdae-area pizza-and-beer place near Hapjeong Station, I highly recommend Pizza Never Sleeps.

Isn't the window view gorgeous~ If you're planning a Han River picnic date too, I'd suggest eating some pizza in the restaurant, then packing up the rest and taking it to the park for a picnic. It makes a great date course.

How are the size and taste of the large minari gochujang pork belly pizza?

Basic side dish setup at Pizza Never Sleeps

This is the basic side dish setup. I ordered the minari (water dropwort) gochujang pork belly pizza, one of Pizza Never Sleeps' signature and most popular menu items. I'd never heard of a combination like that at any other pizza place, so I was super curious, hahaha

Large minari gochujang pork belly pizza

Wow.. is this look for real? Beautiful... For reference, my boyfriend and I got greedy and ordered the large, and after two slices each we were stuffed!

Even the slices at Pizza Never Sleeps are on another level in size! The amount of toppings is so substantial that lifting a slice felt heavy.

Are the dough and sauce at Pizza Never Sleeps handmade?

Handmade-dough pizza at Pizza Never Sleeps

Pizza Never Sleeps serves American-style pizza with a thin, crispy crust, and they make the dough by hand in the restaurant, so the chewiness is really something else. My boyfriend, who is picky (?) about pizza, praised it like crazy... so yes, I admit it's a dough specialist. I also heard that all the pizza sauce is handmade too!

Pizza piled with gochujang pork belly topping

Another thing that moved me was that they don't skimp on toppings. As a meat lover, a pizza loaded with meat is just lovable.. The gochujang (Korean chili paste) pork belly on top even had a smoky grill flavor, so good! It wasn't tough at all, just tasty. A thin crust with generous toppings is the best combo.

Minari and pork belly? Neither is an ingredient you often see at a regular pizza place.. and now they're put together? Would it actually be good??? I was honestly a bit worried, but wow.. I get why it's the best-selling menu item at Pizza Never Sleeps haha. The combination just works.. If it's your first visit to Pizza Never Sleeps, I strongly recommend the minari gochujang pork belly pizza! It's a unique item you won't find at other pizza places, and it's delicious too~~ If you're looking for a great handmade pizza place near Hongdae, a Hapjeong Station pizza-and-beer spot, Pizza Never Sleeps gets my strongest recommendation.

Is the minari gochujang pork belly pizza very spicy?

Pizza with lemon to cool the spice

The minari gochujang pork belly pizza is fairly spicy, and since I love spicy food I enjoyed it a lot! If you can't handle spice, squeezing lemon over it like this neutralizes the heat haha

Why Pizza Never Sleeps takeout works for a Mangwon Han River picnic

The reason I strongly recommend Pizza Never Sleeps as a food stop near Mangwon Hangang Park is that the packaging is really pretty too! They box up leftovers so nicely, so like us, order a generous large and take the rest to your picnic~!! Pizza Never Sleeps, the Hapjeong Station pizza-and-beer spot near Hongdae, please do visit!
