Sejong izakaya: large spicy motsunabe for big eaters at Motsumo
In short
Motsumo Sejong Dodam Branch (모츠모 세종도담점) is a Fukuoka-style motsunabe (offal hot pot) izakaya on the Dodam-dong eating street in Sejong. A big-eater couple ordered the large spicy motsunabe with draft beer, paired it with mentaiko mayo and finished with a noodle add-on. Verdict: the Motsumo motsunabe is so generous with chives and other ingredients that portion size is no worry, and its broth beat most of the motsunabe they had in Fukuoka.

Today I'm sharing a visit to Motsumo, the famous motsunabe (beef offal hot pot) spot in Dodam-dong, Sejong~^^
Motsumo hours and location in Dodam-dong, Sejong
Motsumo Sejong Dodam Branch (모츠모 세종도담점) is at 8-12 Bodeum 3-ro, Sejong, South Korea, Laon Private City I, 1st floor, Unit 114, and is open daily from 17:00 to 01:00. Last order is at 23:30, and it's open year-round with no regular days off.

Motsumo, a motsunabe favorite in Dodam-dong, is on the Dodam-dong eating street. The eye-catching sign makes it easy to spot as soon as you walk in.
What is the atmosphere like inside Motsumo Sejong Dodam Branch?

The inside of Motsumo felt cozy, a nice place for a drink. It was full of people when we went, so I couldn't take many photos of the interior. It has that smell of a hidden gem that people in the know already visit~

If you write a Naver receipt review, you get a free glass of lemon sour, so don't forget!

Before ordering motsunabe, we read carefully through the instructions on how to eat it well.
Motsumo menu: what did we order?

Motsumo's main dish is, of course, motsunabe. The owner seemed so proud of it that I ordered it right away haha. That day we ordered motsunabe and draft beer!
Draft beer and a mentaiko mayo side dish

We had a glass of draft beer before the motsunabe came out. There were lemon sours and other drinks too, but that day I was craving cold draft beer!

Among the side dishes, the mentaiko mayo (spicy pollock roe mayo) caught my eye. Fukuoka makes you think of mentaiko, right? It was a perfect match for the motsunabe too.
Is the large motsunabe at Motsumo enough for big eaters?
The large motsunabe at Motsumo Sejong Dodam Branch is piled with chives and packed with ingredients, a portion that fully satisfied even a big-eater couple. As far as I know, the large size adds more beef brisket.

Even from the front,

and from above, it was piled high with chives. We ordered the large size, and it was definitely a choice with no regrets.
When I ate motsunabe in Fukuoka, I was sometimes disappointed that the pot was too small, but you don't have to worry about that at Motsumo!

See how much there is? It's piled with chives and packed with ingredients, so even we big eaters were completely satisfied haha.
How does the spicy motsunabe taste?
The broth of Motsumo's spicy motsunabe was tastier than most motsunabe I had in Fukuoka, and perfect for Korean tastes. After simmering for a while, the chives wilted and were ready to eat.
We first sipped a little of the broth, and it was honestly tastier than most motsunabe I had in Fukuoka. We personally like a sharp, spicy motsunabe, so we chose the spicy one, and it was perfect for Korean tastes!

Daechang (beef large intestine) cooked just right, dipped in mentaiko mayo
Daechang (beef large intestine) shrinks if boiled too long, so we started eating once it seemed just right. Wrapping beef brisket, daechang and chives together and dipping them deep in the mentaiko mayo brought a wave of nuttiness and saltiness.

Finishing the motsunabe with noodles
While eating like crazy, we couldn't resist carbs, of course! We added noodles and boiled them in the leftover broth to finish. While we were debating the noodles, the owner recommended them to us haha. The owner recommended things first and told us all sorts of things, and was so kind that we were grateful :)
There probably aren't many places in Sejong where you can really feel Japanese vibes, but if I'm craving motsunabe, Motsumo is a place I'll visit again~

Motsumo tips: cabbage and chive refills and nomihodai
I hear Motsumo Sejong Dodam Branch lets you refill napa cabbage and chives once. Be sure to add some while eating!
There's also nomihodai (all-you-can-drink), where you can enjoy unlimited draft beer, sake and highballs. I didn't have much time so I couldn't try it, but if you drink a lot, it might be worth using.
