Gwanghwamun Japanese restaurant with tomato omurice: Hurato Sikdang
In short
Hurato Sikdang Gyeongbokgung Main Branch is a Japanese restaurant specialising in gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) and omurice, on basement level 1 of the Royal Building arcade in front of Gwanghwamun Station Exit 1 in Jongno, Seoul. The gyukatsu costs 19,500 won and is grilled on a personal charcoal stove at the table, then dipped in wasabi and a house sauce, while the Japanese-style omurice at 14,500 won arrives with a soft-boiled egg that you split open before pouring over the tomato-based signature sauce. The gyukatsu was crisp outside and tender inside and the omurice sauce was pleasantly tangy, so both dishes satisfied.

Where is Hurato Sikdang Gyeongbokgung Main Branch? Underground arcade at Gwanghwamun Station Exit 1

"Hurato Sikdang Gyeongbokgung Main Branch," located at Unit 63, B1, Royal Building Arcade, right in front of Gwanghwamun Station Exit 1. Hurato Sikdang is already famous as a Japanese-style gyukatsu + omurice spot... haha 🥹💗

Lee Young-ji apparently called it her favorite gyukatsu spot on her show Chajwin-geon Jwibbuldo Eobjiman, and the idol group Cortis reportedly came here every weekend back when they were trainees!
Inside Hurato Sikdang: interior and seating

The interior isn't huge, but it has group seating and a cozy atmosphere I really liked.

Gyukatsu, 19,500 won: grilling beef cutlet on your own charcoal stove

Gyukatsu, ₩19,500. Served rare so you grill it yourself at your own stove — soft, authentic gyukatsu set apart by Hurato Sikdang's own aging process.

Grilling it yourself over the personal stove is genuinely fun.

That bright red gyukatsu...💗 Crispy and savory on the outside, tender and savory inside, so delicious ㅠㅠ

Topped it with wasabi and dipped it generously in Hurato Sikdang's special sauce too ✨
Japanese-style omurice, 14,500 won: the tomato-based signature sauce

Japanese-style omurice, ₩14,500. A soft-boiled egg split in half, doused with Hurato's signature sauce — a Japanese-style omurice with a jiggly texture. Those side dishes, the diced radish kimchi and pickled radish, are also very good~~~~👍

Just look at that plump, jiggly egg ㅠㅠ

Splitting it neatly in half was a total fail 🥹 Inside is bacon fried rice!

Hurato's signature omurice sauce is tomato-based, so it's tangy and so delicious!

Wrapped it up with the zero-sugar cola we got from the review event ❣️
