Sokcho sundubu restaurant with banchan refills for two: Jinsol
In short
Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu is a Korean sundubu (soft tofu stew) restaurant in the Haksapyeong tofu village in Sokcho, Gangwon, open daily from 7:30am. As the first meal of a late-summer Gangwon trip, two orders of jjamppong seafood sundubu at 17,000 won each came with abalone, scallops and shrimp in a spicy broth, plus banchan of braised potatoes and stir-fried anchovies that Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu refilled on request. The dining room is large with its own parking, so groups and visitors with dogs can eat here too.

I went on a late summer vacation to Gangwon-do, and Sokcho was day one on the itinerary. The very first meal of my big Sokcho trip had to be sundubu (soft tofu stew) — you can't skip that in Gangwon-do — and I found a spot with great side dishes and breakfast hours too: Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu, famous for jjamppong seafood sundubu. Here's how it went :)
Where is Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu, and its hours and parking
Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu (진솔할머니순두부) is at 118 Wonam Haksapyeong-gil, Sokcho, Gangwon, South Korea, in the Haksapyeong tofu village, open daily 07:30–20:00. There's parking, and the place supports groups, reservations, takeout, wifi, disabled parking, and wheelchair access.

This is a well-known Gangwon-do spot in the Haksapyeong tofu village, easy to reach right off Seorak IC. The restaurant is huge with plenty of parking, so it's great for group visits too👍 On weekends, tour buses actually line up here — it's a genuine local favorite!

Inside Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu and its dog-friendly seats
The interior of Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu is seriously huge, right? Perfect for group or family visits, and I loved that there's a separate area set aside for guests with pets :) (Of course it also works fine for solo diners or couples.)

It's not just sundubu — there's a huge variety of dishes here, from grilled pollack to sides. Since it's a place that serves breakfast, the menu leans toward gentle, easy-on-the-stomach Korean food, which I really appreciated.
Jjamppong seafood sundubu for two, with abalone and scallops
What I ordered at Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu was jjamppong seafood sundubu at ₩17,000 × 2. It arrives bubbling in a stone pot, packed with abalone and scallops.

We'd both been snacking on walnut cakes at the rest stop, so our mouths were sweet and we badly needed something to cut through it — so we both went for the spicy jjamppong seafood sundubu haha.

The banchan (side dishes) are seriously varied too! Japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), braised potatoes, cucumber salad, stir-fried anchovies, seaweed stem, salted seafood, kimchi, buckwheat crepe — the kind of spread that finishes off a bowl of rice all on its own.
The jjamppong seafood sundubu comes out in a stone pot, bubbling away and looking absolutely delicious, with abalone and scallops inside,

Shrimp, squid, and more seafood are piled in, and the amount of soft, silky tofu is honestly huge. The broth is spicy and sharp — instant hangover-curing territory♡ So naturally we immediately went and got dessert too, not that I'm admitting anything haha.

Braised potatoes and stir-fried anchovies: banchan refills are a must
The braised potatoes are so sweet and chewy they're better than candied sweet potatoes, and the stir-fried anchovies have zero fishy smell — the seasoning is just so, so good. And one bite of the salted seafood and a whole bowl of rice disappears!

The banchan were so good that refills were basically mandatory haha. The braised potatoes and stir-fried anchovies were so much our style that we piled on a lot, but we finished every bit haha. They went so well with the sundubu that we polished off a whole bowl of rice in no time ㄷㄷ We'd definitely eaten a ton of walnut cakes earlier, but it was good enough to keep going haha.
Is Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu worth it as the first meal of a Gangwon trip?

The jjamppong seafood sundubu at Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu had soft, silky tofu, a generous portion, and plenty of seafood, with a spicy-sharp broth that was total rice-thief territory. And the banchan were so good (especially the braised potatoes — genuinely amazing ㅠㅠ♡) that refills were unavoidable. If you're looking for a Gangwon-do restaurant with delicious side dishes, a spacious dining room, parking, and a friendly owner, I genuinely recommend Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu :)
