Café near Songpa Library: strawberry latte and egg tart at Grid Cafe
In short
Grid Cafe is a bakery café on Macheon-ro in Songpa-gu, Seoul, between Ogeum Park and Seongnaecheon stream. After a trip to Songpa Library, the writer stopped by Grid Cafe at 4 p.m. for a sugar-free matcha latte, a strawberry latte, a 3,700 won egg tart and an apple cinnamon jam scone, but the mentaiko seaweed salt bread and jambon-beurre sandwich were already sold out. Grid Cafe's egg tart, with a filling as soft as silken tofu, was the most satisfying café dessert the writer has had in Songpa.

I visited Grid Cafe, a café in Ogeum-dong. Of all the Songpa cafes I've been to, this one had the best egg tart. The salt bread is famous here too, so I'm going to try that next time.

Grid Cafe location and opening hours in Songpa
Grid Cafe sits between Ogeum Park and Seongnaecheon stream. It's a perfect distance for a leisurely stroll after a visit to Songpa Library.
- Location: 146 Macheon-ro, 1st floor, Songpa-gu, Seoul
- Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00–18:00
- Closed on Mondays
I hear they close once the bakery items sell out, and even at 4 p.m. many of the breads were already gone. I'd better come in the morning for the popular ones. I was disappointed that the mentaiko seaweed salt bread and the jambon-beurre sandwich (ham and butter baguette sandwich) were sold out.

If you check when each bread comes out and time your visit, you should be able to get it freshly baked. There's no parking in front of the shop, but if you look around along the Seongnaecheon stream, you can find a spot.

What I ordered at Grid Cafe: four items
I ordered a matcha latte, a strawberry latte, an egg tart and a scone. The quality is the highest of any dessert I've had at a Songpa café, so I plan to stop by for a little healing every time I come to Songpa Library.

Sugar-free matcha latte at Grid Cafe
I loved that the matcha latte at Grid Cafe can be ordered sugar-free. Apart from Starbucks, the cafes I visit add sugar by default, and the sweetness overpowers the matcha, which I hate.
I'm definitely going to be a regular here. Maybe that's why I could taste the deep flavor of rich matcha from the very first sip.

Without added sugar, the natural nuttiness and gentle bitterness of the matcha came through, which actually satisfied me more. The smoothness of the milk blended naturally with the matcha, and the finish was clean.
Because it isn't sweet, it stayed clean all the way through and I hardly noticed any dryness. The distinct matcha aroma lingered, which made it nice to sip slowly, and for someone like me who prefers strong matcha over sweetness, it's my favorite item. It was such a satisfying matcha latte that I'd order the same sugar-free one again.
Strawberry latte with real fruit pieces
With the first sip of the strawberry latte, the sweetness of fresh strawberries filled my mouth.

What I liked most was the big pieces of strawberry in it. The more I chewed, the juicier it got, almost like eating fresh strawberries. Milk and strawberry blended naturally into a rich yet clean taste, and I was glad it didn't have a strong artificial syrup flavor.
The pairing of sweet strawberries and smooth milk was so good that you could drink it instead of dessert. With plenty of fruit in it, I could taste the strawberry all the way to the last sip. Even this one cup would make a filling breakfast.
Grid Cafe egg tart for 3,700 won: the best dessert in Songpa?
The moment I bit into the egg tart at Grid Cafe, the crisply baked pastry and the moist filling came together beautifully. It was really delicious, and at ₩3,700 it's an amazing value.

What I liked most was that the egg filling was as soft as soft tofu (sundubu), and there was a generous amount of it.
If Paris Baguette's egg tart is the Cherry Maru you buy at the supermarket, Grid Cafe's egg tart is Baskin-Robbins' Cherries Jubilee.

The texture melted in my mouth, so it stayed moist to the end, and a gentle sweetness lingered. The balance of nutty outside and creamy inside was great, and the filling is generous, so I'll have to come back for this egg tart. No wonder so many customers get it to go.
How does Grid Cafe's apple cinnamon jam scone taste?
The apple cinnamon jam scone takes a nicely baked, nutty scone and adds the sweetness of apple and the aroma of cinnamon, which lifts the flavor further.

It's lightly crisp outside and moist inside, so it hardly felt dry. There's plenty of apple jam, so a fresh fruity scent spread with every bite, and the cinnamon followed naturally for a deeper taste. It isn't very sweet, so I could enjoy it plain to the end, and even a single piece is a very satisfying scone.
