Dangha-dong BBQ: often sold-out collar, 4-abalone stew, Dwitgolmok

In short

Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi Geomdan Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Dangha-dong, Geomdan, Incheon, near Wanjeong Station, that serves just two meats: aged Jeju ddotgalbi (pork ribs) and Jeju special pork collar. On a Monday around 6 PM, the writer's family, including the writer's daughter, ordered 2 servings of the often-sold-out pork collar, tried for the first time, and 1 serving of ribs, all grilled by staff. They finished with a seafood doenjang (soybean paste) stew holding 4 abalone. Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi is the writer's number-one pick for a family meal out in Dangha-dong.

Where is Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi and what are its hours?

Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi is at 11 Cheongma-ro 167beonan-gil, Unit 101, Geomdan-gu, Incheon, and it's open daily from 16:00 to 23:00. It's my number-one BBQ place in Dangha-dong, and I finally went back after a long while.

Is Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi busy on a weeknight?

Even at around 6 PM on a Monday, the place was already packed. Every local knows this BBQ spot. Luckily there was no wait, but it was almost full. Yes, it's a place people line up for even on weekdays..!!

It has round tables and an old-school vibe, and even though it opened a long time ago, the inside is pretty clean 😃

Aging cabinet for Jeju pork near the entrance of Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi

Ddotgalbi (돗갈비) is Jeju dialect for pork ribs. Right as you walk in, you can see the aging cabinet, where pork from pigs born and raised on Jeju Island was aging. Even at a glance, it was top-quality aged meat.

Where to park at Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi

There's an outdoor lot behind the restaurant, but it's small, so you can also park at the nearby Dangha Public Parking Lot, which is really cheap.

What's on the menu at Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi?

The main menu is just two things: aged Jeju ddotgalbi and Jeju special pork collar. You order conveniently by kiosk at the table. A place that stakes everything on just two cuts, so you can tell how good it must be, right? ☺️ Side dishes include kimchi stew, doenjang stew, cold noodles, pork noodle soup and more.

Daughter playing with the wet wipe received before the meal

They thoughtfully handed us wet wipes before the meal. My daughter finds the wet wipes hilarious, haha. But she poured way too much water on it..^^

Which side dishes and sauces come with the meat?

At Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi, the side dishes are as good as the meat. You get a scallion salad made with a special secret sauce, aged kimchi, burdock pickles, plus a variety of special dipping sauces for the meat like meljeot (salted anchovy dip), garlic salted shrimp and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste)..!!

Two servings of thick Jeju special pork collar

How was the often sold-out Jeju pork collar on a first try?

We ordered 2 servings of pork collar and 1 serving of ddotgalbi. The collar is often sold out, so this was my first time ordering it. The meat was seriously thick and looked so appetizing.

Big, thick pork collar on the grill

Look at that, amazing, right..! 😍 The thick, tender collar pieces were so big I had no idea how to grill them, but a staff member grilled them for us with an expert touch, snip snip!

Cutting and grilling the thick pork collar

The meat was so thick that it took a little while to cook through. They kept the juices locked inside and grilled it until it was glossy and so delicious, so we could chat with the family and eat comfortably.

Glossy grilled aged pork collar

These are the collar pieces, grilled so you can eat them together with the aged kimchi. The aged collar was full of juice and so tender that the flavor was even better than beef, I swear..❤︎

It had a different charm from the ribs and was just as delicious. It was lighter, and the deep flavor of the meat came through the more you chewed.

How do the Jeju ddotgalbi ribs differ from the pork collar?

At Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi, they grilled the Jeju ddotgalbi after we finished the collar. If everything is grilled at once the meat can go cold, but since they grilled it after we finished the collar, we could keep eating warm meat, which was nice.

Bone-in ddotgalbi with the rib bone attached

You could taste each cut's character more clearly, somehow..😋 Unlike regular pork belly, ddotgalbi has the rib bone attached, so we happily gnawed off the meat clinging to the bone. The bone-in meat was a real treat! It's fattier than the collar, so it's rich and nutty, and the lean meat and fat are nicely mixed, so it's so, so good 💛

Grilled aged kimchi with garlic salted shrimp

The trick at Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi is grilling the aged kimchi together with the meat. Dip the kimchi and meat together in the special garlic salted shrimp sauce and the sweet-salty combination is strangely addictive. I got refills of the aged kimchi so many times.. honestly, it was insanely good ❣️

Seafood doenjang stew with abalone and other seafood

What is the seafood doenjang stew with 4 abalone like?

The seafood doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) at Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi came with assorted seafood and as many as 4 big abalone..! There was plenty of meat and I was full, but I was too curious about the stew. The broth is rich like Jeju-style hearty hangover soup in an earthenware pot, and I truly love this doenjang stew..🥘❤️

Is Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi good for a family meal out?

Grilled over whole charcoal, the meat picks up a subtle smoky aroma, crisp outside and juicy inside, with premium pork rib flavor that pops in your mouth. Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi is a Dangha-dong BBQ place I strongly recommend for family meals 🥩 Once again, I came away completely satisfied 👍🏻
