Jamsil Korean BBQ lunch with my nephew: pork neck & belly, Migang

In short

Migang Sikdang (미강식당) is a Korean BBQ restaurant on Baekjegobun-ro in Songpa-gu, Seoul, between Samjeon and Sports Complex stations near Jamsil. Over lunch with a nephew, the writer had half-and-half pork neck and pork belly, short rib doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) and steamed egg with flying fish roe, and Migang Sikdang brought out kid's tableware, snacks and seaweed for the little one. With meat that comes out pre-grilled and 2 hours of parking at the paid lot next door, Migang Sikdang is an easy choice for family meals with kids.

Jamsil favorite Migang Sikdang A BBQ place you'll regret skipping

Today I visited Migang Sikdang (미강식당) in Jamsil. The owner, an alumnus of the Atlanta Hilton hotel, has been running this pork belly restaurant with pride for 10 years. Heading in with high hopes!

Location and parking: between Samjeon and Sports Complex stations

Migang Sikdang is on Baekjegobun-ro in Songpa, an easy find between Samjeon Station and Sports Complex Station. Best of all, the paid parking lot right next door is covered for 2 hours. We drove, so it was very convenient!

In front of the restaurant there's a little playground vibe. There are retro arcade machines, a whack-a-mole game, and a machine where you can get ice cream for dessert!

We came at lunchtime and lots of people were enjoying the lunch special. It looked so good coming out to the next table that I want to try the lunch special next time!

Inside Migang Sikdang, full of lunchtime customers

Walking in, there's the owner's face right there! Since he puts his own face on the business, Migang Sikdang feels like a place you can trust. Taste matters, but he says hygiene comes first. And above all, the friendliness is top notch.

Side dishes that work with kids: baby tableware, snacks, seaweed

Since I came with my nephew, they even prepared kid's tableware, which touched me. He's about to start elementary school, so he should be moving on from forks.. haha

Because we came with a child, they also brought snacks and seaweed. What a thoughtful touch. I don't have kids myself, but going out with my nephew lately, little things like this really get to me!

We came to a pork belly place, so even though it was lunch, we decided to have meat! The side dishes at Migang Sikdang include a whole green onion. Grill it later with the meat and it's the best.

The shredded scallion salad (pa-chae) is served individually, made with real care.

A special ssamjang (seasoned dipping paste) you can only taste at Migang Sikdang. It's a real treat!

Half pork neck, half pork belly, served pre-grilled

At Migang Sikdang we ordered a half-and-half mix of pork neck and pork belly. They show you the raw meat, then pre-grill it in the kitchen and bring it over, so it's easy to enjoy.

While the meat was being pre-grilled, they told us we could fry our own eggs, which was great!

I was already hungry, so a fried egg to calm my stomach!

Today's pick: corn cheese and steamed egg on the side grill, special ssamjang

The grill at Migang Sikdang is quite unusual! The edge lets you cook corn cheese, steamed egg, kimchi and garlic, which I loved. The meat comes pre-grilled, and they put it all on for us and flipped it a few times, so we could eat quickly!

With this ssamjang you can only get at Migang Sikdang, you don't even need other side dishes!

The owner is confident about pork belly, so why go on about the taste? The meat has proper fire-grilled flavor. If you're looking for a BBQ place around Jamsil, it's worth a stop! The thick pork belly and juicy pork neck each have a different charm.

With meat this good, a daytime drink is a must again today! It came in a basket so my drink stayed cold to the end, lol

Galbi doenjang stew, flying fish roe steamed egg, and Suhyangmi rice

I'm someone who has to have carbs with protein, so I also ordered Migang Sikdang's popular galbi doenjang stew (soybean paste stew with short ribs). Look at the size of those ribs! The broth is clean and tasty, totally my style.

We ordered the flying fish roe steamed egg because of the little one, and what would we have done without it? It was so good the adults pretty much stole it all, lol. Even the plain rice isn't regular rice but Suhyangmi, a premium rice.

It's not easy to find a BBQ place with parking in Seoul, so having 2 hours covered at the paid lot next door is a huge thanks. Vehicle registration is a must.

Migang Sikdang events: a prize draw with a free serving of meat

The owner seems sincere about his customers. Besides the food, they run various events too.

Notice of the event running in the restaurant

There's also a lucky draw event. I joined in and got first prize.. haha. One serving of meat. Guess we have to go again!

We had a long way to go, but I couldn't just walk past the front of Migang Sikdang. Soft-serve ice cream for dessert too!

We all played whack-a-mole together~ If we'd had time we probably would have played the arcade games too and stayed for ages.. haha
