Group dinner course at Jamsilsaenae sashimi restaurant Namhae Fish
In short
Namhae Fish Jamsilsaenae Branch is an aged sashimi (hoe) restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building inside the Jamsilsaenae dining alley, a 5-minute walk from Exit 4 of Jamsilsaenae Station in Songpa, Seoul. The sashimi omakase course starts with pre-meal porridge and mulhoe (chilled raw fish soup), then runs through a spread of aged sashimi, sushi and futomaki, fried food and pasta, and a hot soup at the end — so generous that we could not finish it. With a spacious hall and comfortable seating, Namhae Fish Jamsilsaenae Branch works well for group dinners and larger gatherings in Jamsilsaenae.

The weather's gotten a lot nicer lately, and I suddenly wanted sashimi. Instead of somewhere that just serves plain sashimi, I wanted a place with aged sashimi and a whole course of dishes served together in a hearty set — that's how I ended up at Namhae Fish Jamsilsaenae Branch.

How to get to Namhae Fish from Jamsilsaenae Station, and where to park
Namhae Fish Jamsilsaenae Branch is about a 5-minute walk from Exit 4 of Jamsilsaenae Station on Line 2. It's inside the Jamsilsaenae dining alley, and you just head up to the 2nd floor of the building.

There are plenty of bars nearby that stay open late, so it'd be a good spot to head to for round two after dinner. Parking is available in the space behind the building, but spots can run out depending on when you visit, so if you're planning to drive, check ahead before you go.

Tablet ordering and what the Namhae Fish omakase spread includes
You order using the tablet at the table. Besides the signature aged sashimi set, there was a wide range of menu options including assorted aged sashimi, sushi, rice bowls, fried food, and soups. We went with the set course that lets you taste a variety of aged sashimi and dishes one after another. I liked that it wasn't just a single plate of sashimi — you get to enjoy everything from starters to aged sashimi, sushi, cooked fish, fried food, and hot pot in one meal.

Pre-meal porridge and mulhoe (chilled raw fish soup)
First came a warm pre-meal porridge. It gently settled the stomach and set things up nicely for the meal ahead — light and savory. Mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) came out alongside it, and with its chewy texture, crunchy vegetables, and tangy sauce, I polished off the whole bowl.

How the aged sashimi arrives in the omakase spread

Then came the part I was most looking forward to: the aged sashimi spread. Several kinds of sashimi were arranged beautifully on a big plate — even at a glance, the variety and portion were impressive.

From soft, savory fish like salmon to light, chewy white fish and rich-tasting blue-backed fish, the flavors and textures were all different, which made it fun to compare bite by bite. Keep in mind the sashimi lineup may change depending on seasonal ingredients.

Aged sashimi has a charm that's different from fresh raw fish, doesn't it? The texture was soft yet firm, and the umami built up gently the more you chewed. The slices weren't cut too thin, so even one piece had real texture. It was delicious with just soy sauce and wasabi, but adding a bit of the accompaniments each time made even the same fish taste different.

A perfectly complete set course
Since there was such a variety, one person could pick out the light white fish while another enjoyed the savory salmon or blue-backed fish — which seemed great for visiting with a group.

Sushi and futomaki (thick rolls) in the course
Sushi and futomaki
The sushi that came out midway was tasty too. Eating it with rice made things more filling, and it was hearty enough that we got full pretty quickly. Since the course wasn't just endless sashimi but alternated with cooked dishes, we could eat a variety of things all the way through without getting tired of it.

Fried food and pasta: the portion we could not finish
Fried food and pasta
There were plenty of other dishes too — the fried food came out looking freshly made, crispy outside and moist inside. And then pasta on top of everything... the course just kept going. Honestly, we couldn't finish it all. Come with an empty stomach — the portions and variety were that generous.

The final soup was the perfect finishing touch. Having a warm broth at the end made the meal feel even more complete and satisfying.

From the starters to the last spoonful of soup, the course felt so complete that it was like being treated to a proper full meal. The dining hall is spacious and the seating is comfortable and clean, so I'd recommend it for a date with a partner, a family dinner, or a group gathering or company dinner in Jamsilsaenae.
