Pocheon pasta restaurant: 2kg mussel Pasta of the Month, Eoneu Dal

Eoneu Dal (어느달) is a Western restaurant in a standalone building on Jeongmundong-gil in Pocheon, Gyeonggi, serving pasta, risotto, steak and wine. On a Friday lunch with her husband and no reservation, the writer ordered truffle mushroom cream pasta, the Pasta of the Month topped with 2kg of chopped mussels, and a crab risotto crowned with a whole fresh blue crab. With wide table spacing and soft daylight, Eoneu Dal is an easy recommendation for a Pocheon date or a family meal with kids.

Pocheon Korean restaurant with private booths: Myeongga Dongtae-tang

Myeongga Dongtae-tang (명가동태탕) Pocheon main branch is a new Korean restaurant on Gwangneungsumogwon-ro in Soheul-eup, Pocheon, on the drive past Gomori Reservoir and the National Arboretum, specialising in pollack stew, clear pufferfish soup and spicy pufferfish stew. On a weekend drive, the writer ate pollack stew for 2 and buttery roe rice in a partitioned, room-like booth, and the deep, refreshing broth generously filled with roe and milt stood out. With a large parking area and Pocheon local currency accepted, Myeongga Dongtae-tang is a solid meal stop on the Gomori drive.

Yangju dakgalbi restaurant for a weekend drive with my husband: Seorak

Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yangju Branch is a charcoal-grilled dakgalbi (marinated chicken) and makguksu (buckwheat noodle) restaurant in Mansong-dong, Yangju, near Lakewood CC. On a weekend drive, the writer and her husband ate soy and spicy dakgalbi that the staff grilled from start to finish, then tried a dessert-size bibim makguksu (spicy mixed noodles) and a regular mul makguksu (cold broth noodles). With wide parking, a pleasant dining room and full grilling service, Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi made for a relaxed meal focused on conversation.

Anyang charcoal pork galbi with Gyeongju roots: Sannae Sutbul Galbi

Sannae Sutbul Galbi Bakdal Branch is a newly opened restaurant specializing in seasoned Hanton (Korean pork) charcoal galbi near Bakdal Market in Manan-gu, Anyang, Gyeonggi. Three diners shared 4 servings of the seasoned Hanton charcoal galbi with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and naengmyeon (cold noodles), and the thick cuts, real charcoal aroma and not-too-sweet marinade never got tiring. For a hearty pork galbi dinner in Bakdal-dong, Sannae Sutbul Galbi Bakdal Branch is well worth recommending.

Pocheon campground C site tubing and platform rental: Byeolbit

Byeolbit Camping Site is a valley auto-campground right in front of Damteo Valley in Gwanin-myeon, Pocheon, Gyeonggi. A married couple booked C site for the weekend, pitched a tarp and floated on tubes in the valley, and found Byeolbit Camping Site carefully run, from the wristbands handed out at check-in to the cypress-walled shower rooms and the indoor sinks with hot water. For anyone looking for a summer valley campground, Byeolbit is worth booking again next year.

Atka mackerel rice pot set after a Baegun Lake walk, Uiwang

Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Baegun Lake Branch is a wood-fired grilled fish restaurant on Neungan-gil in Uiwang, Gyeonggi, about a 20-minute walk from the Baegun Lake trail toward Neungan Village. Dinner with parents was a barley corvina rice pot set, an atka mackerel rice pot set and the signature stamina set for two, which brought grilled sea eel, oily flounder, seasonal braised fish and grilled Norwegian mackerel to one table. With unlimited self-serve side dishes, a large parking lot and a bus stop right in front, Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo is an easy choice for a meal with parents near Baegun Lake.

Jeju hangover soup breakfast at Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi, Hyeopjae Beach

Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi is a haejangguk (hangover soup) restaurant right in front of Hyeopjae Beach in Hallim-eup, Jeju City. On an early morning visit we ordered one bowl of each: the clear Jeju Hyeopjae bomal haejangguk (top shell soup) and the red-broth hanwoo myeongpum naejangtang (premium beef tripe soup), comparing the light broth packed with top shells against the heavy ox-bone tripe soup. Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi is an easy, gentle-on-the-stomach breakfast bowl near Hyeopjae Beach.
