Jungnang market chicken and dessert takeout: Daroa

In short

Daroa Dongbu Market Branch is a takeout food shop in Jungnang, Seoul. I brought home E로운 Fried Chicken, strawberry Du-jjon Balls, Dubai cotton candy chocolate, and more to share with my family. Verdict: a handy stop for a meal and sweet snacks in one go.

Daroa takeout menu at Jungnang Dongbu Market

These days, markets have so much more than traditional foods. There are all sorts of snacks and new food trends to discover, which makes browsing really fun.

This time, I was visiting Jungnang Dongbu Market and stopped by Daroa Dongbu Market Branch (다로아 동부시장점), which caught my eye.

I usually enjoy looking around markets anyway, but Daroa was hard to walk past: besides breads and snacks, it sells chicken and hamburgers, along with the chewy desserts that are popular these days.

This time, I placed a takeout order so we could eat comfortably at home.

As we took everything out and tried it one by one, I was quite pleased that this takeout order covered both a meal and snacks at once.

Daroa Dongbu Market Branch location and information

It is on the first floor at 68 Jungnangcheon-ro 10-gil, Jungnang-gu, Seoul. It is about 343 m from Exit 4 of Jungnang Station on the Gyeongui–Jungang and Gyeongchun lines; head toward the Dongbu Market intersection and it is easy to find.

As you walk around the market, lots of foods catch your eye. Daroa is fairly noticeable too, so I do not think first-time visitors will have much trouble finding it.

It is open 11:00–20:00 on Monday and Wednesday through Sunday, and regularly closed on Tuesday. I recommend checking the hours before you go.

Takeout, delivery, and reservations are available, as are pets and simple payment. It is good for taking home food like I did, or for picking up a quick snack while browsing the market.

Takeout menu items to share with family

I especially thought it would be nice to buy several things at once and share them with family at home.

E로운 Fried Chicken takeout

₩9,900 E로운 Fried Chicken

One of the items I was looking forward to most on this visit was E로운 Chicken.

Packed E로운 Fried Chicken

The fried chicken costs ₩9,900, so the price caught my attention right away considering prices these days. More than anything, when I opened it as soon as I got home, the coating looked so appetizing that it made my mouth water.

It is boneless chicken in easy bite-sized pieces, so it was convenient to pick up with my hands and a good amount to share as a snack with family. Fried chicken is always best while it is warm, right? I tried one as soon as I got home, and the crispy coating went well with the tender meat inside.

At ₩9,900, I thought it was an easy menu item to order without feeling too much of a burden.

It would be just right to take home on a day when ordering a whole chicken feels like a little much, but having only a simple snack feels lacking.

Chicken packed for dinner

Especially if you pack up chicken before heading home after grocery shopping at the market, it seems like one less thing to worry about for dinner.

The sweet snacks I chose too

Strawberry-filled Du-jjon Balls

This time, I also chose Du-jjon Balls, a snack I had been curious about lately. The name, strawberry-filled Du-jjon Balls, made me wonder what they would taste like, and when I opened the package, they looked like a nice sweet treat.

It is a menu item likely to catch the eye of anyone who likes chewy-textured desserts. After something savory like chicken, a sweet dessert is great for cleansing the palate, right? This time too, I brought out the Du-jjon Balls for dessert after the E로운 Chicken, and the combination worked better than I expected. I also thought they would be a good snack to have with children.

Dubai cotton candy chocolate

There are so many Dubai-style desserts and chocolates around these days that I find myself looking whenever I see one.

Daroa also had Dubai cotton candy chocolate, so I packed some with my order. It feels a little different from everyday snacks, so once it is set out at home, I think you end up reaching for one piece after another. It seemed especially nice for sharing if you have children or family members who like sweet snacks.

MALLOWBOMS and Buttercat cheese cookies

I also packed MALLOWBOMS, which caught my eye. Even the name felt cute and fun, so it made me curious.

These days, more places sell all kinds of imported snacks and new desserts that were not easy to find before, and discovering them in a market is quite fun too. They looked good for taking out one by one while watching a movie or drama at home, or for sharing during snack time with children.

The last item I packed was Buttercat cheese cookies. Cheese and cookies are such a popular pairing that I picked them without hesitation. Too many sweet desserts in a row can get a little tiring, but a savory snack like cheese cookies is nice to alternate with. They seemed like they would pair well with coffee or tea, making them good for an afternoon snack.

Takeout from meals to desserts in one stop

The biggest advantage I felt while getting takeout from Daroa was the broad selection at one shop.

If a place has only chicken, you buy only chicken, but here you can browse everything from meal-worthy dishes to breads, desserts, and snacks. Add one or two things, and before you know it, your shopping bag feels full. It seemed even more fun to stop by while looking around Jungnang Dongbu Market.

Snacks picked up after visiting the market

If you get hungry while shopping at the market, you can pack chicken or a simple meal, then pick up snacks or desserts the children might like before heading home. I initially meant to get just a simple takeout order, but after looking around at this and that, I ended up choosing several things. It was that kind of fun place to browse.

Takeout after browsing Jungnang Dongbu Market

Jungnang Dongbu Market has the lively atmosphere unique to a market and plenty of foods to look at, making it a nice place for a casual stroll.

Among the shops there, Daroa Dongbu Market Branch sells a variety of things, from simple meals and chicken to breads, desserts, and snacks, so I thought it was a good stop when looking for food at the market. The E로운 Fried Chicken I packed this time was especially easy on the wallet at ₩9,900, and I was happy that I could choose snacks to enjoy comfortably at home too.

Chicken and desserts packed together

Rather than ending with just one menu item, it is the kind of place where choosing several things and sharing them with family at home is fun. If you are looking for a quick bite or takeout food near Jungnang Station, take a look around Jungnang Dongbu Market and stop by Daroa Dongbu Market Branch. Especially when you are browsing the market and wondering, “What should we eat at home today?”, I think you may find an answer more easily than expected. If, like me, you want both chicken and sweet snacks, I recommend choosing several items to take home. It made me want to try different menu items next time too.
