Seongsan restaurant on a Seopjikoji course: A set for two, Jejurowoon

In short

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is a Korean restaurant at 101 Sinyang-ro in Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo, Jeju, serving braised hairtail (galchi-jorim) and grilled tilefish. Stopping in between Seopjikoji and Seongsan Ilchulbong, the writer ordered the A set for two at 24,000 won per person, which arrived as one full table of braised hairtail, grilled tilefish, soy sauce marinated crab, sticky pot rice for two and sea urchin seaweed soup. For couples who want to taste several Jeju dishes in one sitting rather than a single hairtail dish, the A set at Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon is the smarter order.

What kind of restaurant is Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch?

I wanted a hearty Korean meal during my Jeju trip, so I stopped by Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon. They have a set menu that lets you try braised hairtail, grilled tilefish, and soy sauce marinated crab all at once, so we went with the A set for two. Sweet rice cooked in a pot came standard too, along with sea urchin seaweed soup, so the spread was more substantial than I expected.

Inside, there were plenty of tables, and the atmosphere felt comfortable for families or larger groups. When you're eating Jeju-style Korean food like braised hairtail, with side dishes and main dishes all laid out together, having a wide table turns out to matter quite a bit.

The menu and what comes in the A set

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon has set menus ranging from A to D. We ordered the A set for two that day. The A set comes with braised hairtail, grilled tilefish, sweet rice pot, soy sauce marinated crab, and your choice of seafood hot pot or sea urchin seaweed soup, and it requires a minimum order of two people. We chose the sea urchin seaweed soup for the broth.

The A set for two: price and full table

A set for two fully laid out on the table

Once everything was laid out, the table was basically full. With braised hairtail, grilled tilefish, soy sauce marinated crab, sea urchin seaweed soup, and pot rice for two all served together — not just one main dish but several — it was great for two people to share a variety of bites. The A set currently costs ₩24,000 per person.

The main dish: braised hairtail (galchi-jorim)

The first thing I reached for was, of course, the main dish — braised hairtail. When you visit Jeju, you kind of have to eat a hairtail dish at least once, right?

Eating the hairtail simmered nicely in sauce together with the sweet rice pot felt like a proper meal. Since it wasn't just braised hairtail on its own but paired with a stream of other dishes, it felt much more abundant than ordering that one dish alone.

Grilled tilefish (okdom-gui)

Grilled tilefish also comes with the A set. Where the braised hairtail is a saucy dish, the grilled tilefish is light and clean, so alternating between the two made for a really good combination.

Grilled tilefish included in the A set

Being able to taste both hairtail and tilefish, not just one, was another strong point of the A set.

And then there was soy sauce marinated crab, also part of the standard set. Braised hairtail and grilled tilefish would already have been plenty, but adding soy sauce crab on top made the whole side dish lineup feel much more generous. With so many dishes that go well with rice, the sweet rice pot disappeared fast.

Soy sauce marinated crab included in the standard set

The A set for two comes standard with two servings of sweet rice pot. Rather than plain steamed rice, it arrives warm straight from the pot, which paired well with the hairtail's sauce.

Between piling on hairtail flesh and eating soy sauce crab bite by bite, it felt like one bowl of rice wasn't going to be enough, haha.

Sea urchin seaweed soup

For the broth, we chose sea urchin seaweed soup. After eating saucy dishes like the braised hairtail, spooning up warm seaweed soup in between felt like it reset the palate each time.

Having sea urchin seaweed soup as part of the set made the whole meal feel even more distinctly Jeju.

Why Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon fits a Seopjikoji and Seongsan day

I visited Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon in the Seongsan area hoping to eat braised hairtail, and just ordering the A set for two brought braised hairtail, grilled tilefish, soy sauce marinated crab, sweet rice pot, and sea urchin seaweed soup all together — a genuinely satisfying spread. If you'd rather try several Jeju dishes at once instead of just braised hairtail on its own, I'd recommend the A set. And if you want a hearty Jeju-style Korean meal during a Seongsan Ilchulbong or Seopjikoji trip, Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon is worth a visit.
