Sangbong Seoul Korean BBQ with minari refills: Super Naengsam

In short

Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch is a frozen pork belly restaurant in Jungnang, Seoul. We enjoyed five servings of pork belly with sundubu-jjigae, draft beer, and fried rice made with leftover meat. Verdict: the unlimited minari refills and clean dining room were especially satisfying.

Super Naengsam at the entrance to Sangbong Station’s food alley

A new barbecue restaurant had opened at the entrance to Sangbong Station’s food alley, and I’d been keeping an eye on it thinking I should visit one day. This time, I finally made it there! From the clean interior to every single dish, it was satisfying all around.

Comfortable barbecue restaurant interior

A comfortable interior, even for a barbecue restaurant

The interior was simply clean and comfortable~ Even though it’s a barbecue restaurant, the ventilation system must work well because there was no overwhelming meat smell or stuffy feeling at all.

Well-ventilated Super Naengsam interior

The air conditioning was nice and strong, and I also liked that there were slightly tucked-away seats like this. They seemed perfect for a quiet meal, too.

A simple menu and self-service side dishes

I loved how simple Super Naengsam’s menu was! If you struggle to choose like I do, you’ll probably prefer places with a simple menu too, haha. We ordered three servings of frozen pork belly, sundubu-jjigae, a bowl of rice, and 500 ml of draft beer.

Once we finished ordering, the basic side dishes were set out. There was lettuce, pickled onions, green onion kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts, minari (water celery), and plenty of other sides that go well with meat.

For extra side dishes, you can use the self-service bar.

Never mind everything else—minari refills?! These days, so many barbecue places charge extra for minari, but here you can take as much as you want from the self-service bar. Haha, the best!! And this spicy sauce... it’s seriously magical 乃 It was so good dipped with the meat.

Frozen pork belly and spicy sundubu-jjigae

Our three servings of frozen pork belly arrived quickly, and the bright pink color alone made the meat look fantastic.

We put it straight onto the hot grill. We added mushrooms, kimchi, minari, and seasoned bean sprouts too, then sprinkled lots and lots of pepper over the pork belly, haha. While waiting for the meat to cook, the sundubu-jjigae arrived first, so we had that like an appetizer.

Sundubu-jjigae served as an appetizer

It had generous chunks of soft tofu inside, and the broth was deliciously spicy. It seemed to have a slight tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) flavor, which made it even better.

Sundubu-jjigae and a bowl of rice

After one sip of the broth, I couldn’t resist ordering a bowl of rice... The portion was generous too! Since the pork is thin, frozen pork belly cooks much faster than thick-cut pork belly, so you can eat sooner—another thing I liked.

The meat cooked up beautifully golden-brown~

I immediately dipped it in sesame oil sauce. Frozen pork belly really tastes best with sesame oil sauce, I think. The nutty, salty flavors went together so well.

Since it can get tough if it cooks any longer, I gently placed it on top of the minari and dug in again—the spicy sauce from the self-service bar was a perfect match too! It cut right through the richness with a delicious kick.

Frozen pork belly enjoyed as a lettuce wrap

We made proper lettuce wraps too~ and tried it with minari. Meat and minari are always delicious together, honestly... The fragrant minari made the meat even more enjoyable.

Super Naengsam also has draft beer..! I’m more of a draft beer person than a bottled beer person, so I was very happy, hehe.

Two extra servings, then fried rice

Honestly, three servings are enough for two people, but it was so delicious—and my husband and I are big eaters too.. haha. So we ended up ordering two more servings.

Additional order of frozen pork belly

Again, the meat was fresh with absolutely no off smell, and the quality itself was just so good.

We enjoyed it deliciously right to the end.

Leftover meat after the meal

Honestly, we were already incredibly full at this point... but how could we possibly skip fried rice? We had to have Korean-style dessert ㅠㅠ

Fried rice cooked at the table

It’s self-service, so you fry it yourself at the table. The basic fried rice came already prepared, and we finely chopped up our leftover meat to add in, along with sides like seasoned bean sprouts and kimchi. You know it tastes even better this way, right?

We ate well right to the end 乃 It was such great value too—I was completely satisfied! From the clean, comfortable interior to every side dish, this was a place that really pleased us. Above all, the frozen pork belly, sundubu-jjigae, and fried rice were all high quality and delicious, so we left happy to the very end. It’s right at the entrance to Sangbong Station’s food alley, so it’s easy to find and very accessible! It would be perfect not only for a date, but also for a work dinner, family gathering, or visit with a group.
