Magok hot pot with 2-hour free parking and lunch brisket set: J's Pot

In short

J's Pot Magok Branch is a one-pot-per-person hot pot and shabu-shabu restaurant on the B2 restaurant floor of COEX Magok Tower A in Gangseo, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Magongnaru Station Exit 6. The writer had the lunch beef brisket hot pot at midday, then came back with a friend for mala broth hot pot and beef broth shabu-shabu, each in a separate pot. The sauce bar posts recommended mixing ratios so nothing goes wrong, and the first 2 hours of parking are free, which suits Magok office lunches and team dinners.

Today I'm bringing you a review of a place near Magongnaru Station that keeps showing up in reviews lately — J's Pot Magok Branch, haha! Ever have that dilemma where you want hot pot but going alone feels awkward, going with a friend means everyone wants different broths, and you're also not sure it works for a group dinner? This place solves all of that with its one-person-one-pot hot pot/shabu-shabu setup!

Where is J's Pot Magok Branch, and how does parking work?

J's Pot Magok Branch is at 143 Magok-jungang-ro, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, basement level 2 of COEX Magok Tower A. It's a 5-minute walk from Exit 6 of Magongnaru Station (Airport Railroad and Line 9), connected underground to COEX — just keep walking through the food court on B2 of Tower A and you'll find it!

It was easy to get down from the parking garage by elevator, and the location is also great for a walk toward Seoul Botanic Park after eating! Just a note — parking is free for the first 2 hours of use :)

Inside J's Pot Magok: solo bar seats to private rooms

The moment I walked in, my first thought was that it was way bigger and cleaner than I expected! The ceilings are high and the seats are spaced out, so instead of the usual heavy, chaotic hot pot restaurant feel, it had a modern, cozy atmosphere.

The seating options are really varied too — there are solo bar seats near the entrance, great for eating alone, 2-4 person tables good for friends or couples, and even a private room and group seating for larger get-togethers!

Every table has its own induction burner, so everyone eats from their own pot — no need to worry about what the person next to you is doing, and everyone can pick their own broth. Ordering is done through the tablet at the table, with clear photos and descriptions so there's no confusion, and adding more items mid-meal was quick and easy :)

How to order at J's Pot and the 8 broths to choose from

At J's Pot, you build your own combination in the order broth > meat > noodles/sides! There are 8 broths total — beef, kimchi, mala, tomato, tom yum, and more — and beyond hot pot and shabu-shabu, they also serve fried rice, menbosha (shrimp-stuffed toast), sweet and sour pork, and more, so it looked like a good spot to bring kids too!

Guide to the lunch beef brisket hot pot set composition

What comes in the lunch beef brisket hot pot set?

I visited at lunchtime and had the lunch beef brisket hot pot, which comes with broth, assorted vegetables, 100g beef brisket, white rice, and 2 fish balls — it looked like a great value lunch option for Magok office workers!

Mala broth hot pot vs beef broth shabu-shabu at J's Pot

I came back with a friend and we ordered mala broth hot pot and beef broth shabu-shabu! First up, the mala broth — the most mentioned combo at J's Pot — is rich and spicy with that classic mala numbing kick at the end, so I'd highly recommend it if you're into mala flavors!

If spicy feels like too much, I'd strongly recommend the beef broth! The broth looks light and clear at first, but it gets subtly richer the longer it simmers, and it's not overpowering — the more you eat, the more savory it gets! The thinly sliced meat cooked up fresh and tender, not chewy at all, so it works great for lunch or a lighter dinner!

What sauce ratios does the J's Pot sauce bar recommend?

You know how important the sauce bar is when it comes to hot pot, right? Even the same hot pot can taste completely different depending on what you dip it in — and J's Pot Magok Branch has a huge sauce bar right in the center of the restaurant, almost Haidilao-level, with so many options! If you're not sure what to mix, there's a recommended sauce ratio guide posted, so you really can't go wrong if you just follow it!

Let me give you a quick sauce recommendation!

  • Peanut sauce + grated garlic + onion + Lao Gan Ma + chili oil → perfect with mala broth
  • Yuzu ponzu → pairs great with beef broth shabu-shabu

The sauce bar was also kept really clean, which was fully satisfying from a hygiene standpoint!

There's also a corner with napkins, disposable aprons, scissors, and tongs, so you can grab what you need right away — very convenient!

Portions, prices, and who J's Pot Magok suits

At first I thought the portions looked a bit small, but once I added in all the vegetables and meat, it turned out to be really filling! If you're going with a friend who's not into Chinese-style food, there are also Korean-style options like beef brisket kimchi udon, brisket and minari kalguksu, and bulgogi jeongol, so everyone can pick according to their own taste without anyone being left out!

The prices run a bit higher than your typical shabu-shabu chain, but with the one-person-one-pot setup being hygienic, being able to pick your own broth and meat, the fresh ingredients, and the generous portions, it's a wide, clean space that works for solo dining, dates, family meals, and group dinners alike — I'd recommend it! Next time I want to try a different broth combo, so I'm thinking of going for tom yum!
