Quiet Dongjak Korean pub with spicy egg soup and Nimome: Sisibibi

Sisibibi, near Sadang Station, was our second-round stop. I found it while craving eggplant fritters, and honestly it's tier-1 among the eggplant dishes I've had recently — completely my taste.

Where is Sisibibi in Dongjak, and where do you park?

Sisibibi is on the 2nd floor at 163 Sadang-ro 30-gil, Dongjak-gu, Seoul. It's 117m from Sadang Station Line 2, Exit 8.

There's no parking at the building, so you'll need to use Sadang 1 Public Parking Lot. 1 hour of parking support is available.

Inside Sisibibi: is it quiet enough to talk?

The interior is clean and the tables are spaced just right, so even with a group of customers around, it was easy to have a conversation

Once you sit down they bring out a basic side snack — maybe because Sadang skews an older crowd, it had that old-school snack vibe

I guess I'm at an age now where Sadang suits me better than Hongdae or Gangnam... it's comfortable

Nimome, a traditional Korean liquor

I ordered it thinking I'd had it before — turns out it wasn't the same one, but it was still delicious, this Nimome

Apparently it won top prize at the 2017 Korea Traditional Liquor Competition

I figured the low price meant a small portion, but it actually comes in a pretty generous amount — see the photo!

I don't eat cilantro, but my companion loves it, so I asked in advance for it to be served separately — the best

Spicy red egg soup at Sisibibi

I ordered this thinking it'd be nice to have one soup dish, and it paired really well with the drinks we ordered this time — very satisfying egg soup

Another great thing about Sisibibi's egg soup — lots of egg, and it even has glass noodles in it

Chinese chili nurungji (scorched rice) eggplant fritters

And here's the eggplant fritters I was really, really happy with. Coming with nurungji (scorched rice) makes for a great combo, and especially the Chinese chili sauce was so delicious

It's clearly a Korean pub, yet even the Chinese-style sauce is perfect here

Back in school, I only ever got mushy eggplant and hated it — if they'd served eggplant fritters like this back then, I'd have loved eggplant way sooner

If this had been our first round instead of the second, I would have ordered the eggplant fritters one more time

Bingtanbok, the last drink of the night

Hangang-style boksoju (peach liqueur soju cocktails) have been trendy for a while now, and the Bingtanbok we ordered here has a similar vibe

If you like boksoju, this will be your kind of thing

What we liked about Sisibibi

The staff were kind and the vibe of the place is great, so it works well for both a date and a gathering. Sadang has a strong image of loud, rowdy bars so I hadn't come around here much, but this time I found a bar that's exactly my style — really satisfied
