Sadang Station bar for green grape ale and chicken basket: Weizenhaus

Here's my review of Weizenhaus Bangbae Branch 1, a great spot for a beer with friends in Sadang 🍺 I had a dinner plan in the Sadang area and was looking for a Sadang Station bar with a good atmosphere, and found a place where you could enjoy pizza and chicken along with beer, so I checked it out!

Where is Weizenhaus Bangbae Branch 1, and what is the entrance like?

Weizenhaus Bangbae Branch 1 is right in front of Exit 11 of Sadang Station, so it's super easy to find. The entrance itself was pretty distinctive the first time I went — you have to walk all the way down a staircase to reach the space, and the roughly finished walls combined with dim lighting gave it a bit of a secret hideout feel!

Inside Weizenhaus: seating and room for groups

Once you step inside Weizenhaus Bangbae Branch 1, the space turns out to be much bigger than expected. With high ceilings, exposed pipes and steel structures, and vintage tables and chairs, the whole place has an industrial feel. The lighting isn't too bright either, staying fairly dim, which makes it a good atmosphere for chatting over beer!

The tables aren't cramped together, ranging from ones good for 2–4 people to spots that can fit larger groups, so it seemed like a good place for a casual visit with friends or a bigger gathering. A lot of Sadang bars get crowded on weekends or in the evening, but since this place itself is spacious, it felt a bit more relaxed.

Tablet ordering and what's on the Weizenhaus menu

Every table has a tablet installed, so you can order comfortably from your seat without having to flag down staff. The menu was more varied than I expected — beer, soju, cocktails, wine, pizza, tacos, all kinds of snacks, and salads. You could even check the Wi-Fi info directly on the tablet, which was a nice touch haha.

While mulling over what to order, I figured beer just can't go without pizza, so I picked pizza first 🍕 There were several kinds — gorgonzola, pepperoni, arugula — and the prices were right there on the menu. Besides pizza, there were tacos and other snacks too, so it seemed like a good place to order a bunch and share if you're with a group. It was exactly the kind of lineup you'd want on a day you're craving pizza and beer near Sadang Station.

Dark beer vs green grape ale: how they taste

And finally, the beers we ordered showed up 🍻 They come in dedicated glasses with the Weizenhaus logo, and even the glasses were pretty. We ordered a dark ale and a green grape beer to compare flavors. The colors were completely different too, so there was some fun in choosing based on your mood.

This one here is the green grape ale, and it had a sweet grape aroma that was totally my style. It had a nice amount of carbonation and was refreshing to drink, pairing well with greasy snacks too. Having a cold beer in a Sadang Station bar with such a nice atmosphere really melted away the day's fatigue haha.

Arugula-piled pizza and how it goes with beer

Then the pizza we'd been waiting for arrived 🍕 It had so much green arugula piled on top that it looked incredibly appetizing just from the visual alone.

On a base of tomato sauce and cheese, the fresh arugula and sauce were added on top, and the savoriness of the cheese paired really well with the fresh flavor of the arugula. The dough wasn't too thick either, so it wasn't heavy, and the arugula cut through the richness, making it easy to keep reaching for another slice.

The pairing with beer was great too 👍 If you're looking for pizza near Sadang Station, I'd recommend this as a pizza-and-beer combo!

The chicken basket and its two sauces

It felt like a shame to stop at just pizza, so we ordered chicken too 🍗 It came out piled high in a big basket, and the portion was more generous than I expected. Alongside it came two kinds of sauce to dip the chicken in, so we could switch between them depending on our mood. Pizza-and-beer, chicken-and-beer — all handled in one sitting lol.

The outside was fried crisp, but the chicken meat inside stayed moist rather than dry! It wasn't chicken where only the batter was thick — the meat itself was plump, so it had a nice bite to it too.

It's tasty on its own, but dipping it in the sauces gave it a whole different flavor! The chicken itself wasn't too intensely seasoned, so the combination worked even better with the sauces. Take a bite of crispy chicken, then a sip of beer — chicken and beer really is a combination that never fails..🍺

With two sauces — tangy and mustard — even the same chicken didn't get boring, and true to a great beer snack, I kept reaching for more lol. If you're visiting with a group, I'd recommend ordering both a pizza and chicken to share!

In particular, the place has a distinctly vintage, hip pub vibe rather than the usual generic beer hall feel, so it'll come to mind when I'm looking for a different kind of bar in Sadang.
