What I look for in a Korean BBQ restaurant with two kids
When you take two kids to a Korean BBQ restaurant, there are quietly so many things to consider, right? Is parking easy, is there somewhere for the kids to sit, and while I am looking after them as the meat cooks, when exactly do I get to eat?

Those were the criteria I started with when choosing a pork rib place near Balsan Station, too. But Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch was one of those places where I was the first to say, “Let’s come again next time,” on the way out. This was actually our second visit. They say they use a patented 144-hour cross-aging method for the texture of their beef and pork ribs. Private rooms accommodate from 6 up to 100 people, and there is a separate ground-level parking building next door with room for 77 cars, so parking is generous even among Magok’s large meat restaurants.

Ground-level parking and spacious seating
It is 261 m on foot from Exit 4 of Balsan Station on Line 5. I drove, and because it is a ground-level parking building rather than underground parking, getting the children out and gathering our things was much easier. When you open the restaurant door, the air feels fresh. A pine tree sits along the wood-toned hallway, and the hall and private rooms run side by side, giving the whole place a tidy feeling from the entrance.

There is plenty of space between the tables, even when a child turns sideways in their seat. They also brought us a high chair as soon as we settled in. When choosing a restaurant to take children to, those two things are honestly half the battle.

You order on the tablet at the table. You can tap to request more side dishes right away, and that is more helpful than you might think when a child suddenly needs something.

Three servings of marinated pork and a full spread
That day, we ordered three servings of marinated pork grill, plus naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) and doenjang-jjigae (soybean-paste stew). It is ₩23,000 per person, and the portions were generous, so three servings were enough for two adults and the children. The meat arrived with a full table of side dishes. The seasoning was not overpowering and leaned clean, so it was nice to pick at the sides between bites of meat, and the children could eat comfortably too.

Ribs grilled by staff while I looked after the kids
Once the meat arrives, a staff member grills it from beginning to end. Timing matters with marinated ribs, and because they kept an eye on when to turn them, the meat cooked evenly even while I was taking care of the kids. Once the ribs hit the charcoal, a sweet aroma rises first. It has a rounded scent, almost like fruit juice, so I was already looking forward to it while it grilled. They say the meat is aged with ground organic pear, and it felt like that explanation came through in the aroma first. 🔥
When you eat the cut meat right away, the outside is lightly crisp and the inside loosens into soft fibers. The marinade has soaked in lightly, so the flavor of the meat comes through too. The sweetness lingers gently at the back of the tongue. That is why I kept reaching for it even after four or five pieces. The marinated pork neck had slightly thicker fibers, with more chew to it.

Wrapped with pa-muchim (seasoned shredded scallions), it gets a crunchy texture and becomes a different bite again. When I put the meat over rice for my child, they kept asking for more. That is honestly why we came back a second time.

Naengmyeon, doenjang-jjigae, and pear sherbet
After we had eaten a fair amount of meat, we ordered naengmyeon. It came with the bowl piled high with ice, and the cold broth went down refreshingly with the first bite, clearing the palate. The noodles stayed nicely chewy, so the texture held up to the end. My child even finished their portion of naengmyeon, broth and all. ❄️

We ordered doenjang-jjigae too, and it had big pieces of tofu and vegetables in it. It was warmly savory, good with rice, and having hot broth between bites of meat felt easy on the stomach.

For the finish, there was pear sherbet. When you order dessert on the tablet, finely blended sherbet arrives; it is sweet from the pear itself, cool and clean going down. Since this is a place that uses pear in its rib marinade, it was fun that pear carried through to dessert too.

What two adults and two kids spent
I will note the price too. When you search for pork ribs near Balsan Station, there are lots of atmosphere photos, but you are often still left wondering about the actual total. For three servings of marinated pork grill, naengmyeon, doenjang-jjigae, and pear sherbet, our bill was in the high ₩80,000s. For two adults and two children, this was a filling spread.

A Korean beef yukhoe (seasoned raw beef) coupon is offered when four or more adults visit. If your party qualifies, check for it before ordering. Corkage is available too, making this a good option for a get-together with drinks. Private rooms are available from six people, and group seating accommodates up to 30 at once. Private hire is also possible, so for a larger gathering such as a parent’s birthday or a work dinner, I recommend reserving ahead. The setup is especially well suited to meals with several people, including mixed groups of children and adults or gatherings with older family members.
If you are looking for pork ribs near Balsan Station, especially somewhere to go with children or parents, Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch is an easy choice. Staff grilling the meat, generous parking, and spacious seating all come together here. After visiting twice, I could see why it is so often mentioned for Magok family gatherings and group work dinners. I think we will go again next time too. 🙂
