For a spring change-up, Harung here decided to take on a new hairstyle!! Every woman gets that urge to change herself once in a while, right..?

So off I went to a Wangsimni hair salon 😁 Let me tell you about the hippie perm I got at Urban Ground Hair Sangwangsimni Station Branch (어반그라운드헤어 상왕십리역점)!!

Urban Ground Hair Sangwangsimni Station Branch is a short walk from Exit 4 of Sangwangsimni Station, and you go up the stairs on the right side of the building. I wanted my hair done but also wanted to rest on the weekend.. so!! I used a precious half-day off and went on a weekday afternoon!

It's a Wangsimni hair salon right between my office and my home, so it was easy to get to. Come out of Exit 4 of Sangwangsimni Station, walk a little and ta-da~ 😁 Just take the stairs on the right side of the building!

For Urban Ground Hair Sangwangsimni Station Branch, it's best to pick your designer, date and time in advance on Naver Booking, and a ₩10,000 deposit is paid up front. These days if you walk into a salon without a reservation, there's no designer free to look at your hair.. so booking ahead is a must, a must!!

Before you visit, please register your appointment through Naver Booking. Pick the designer you want, choose the date and time, and you're done!!

If you can't decide on a designer.. book with "no designer preference" and the salon will assign one for you! (I booked ahead and then visited.) And note!! The ₩10,000 deposit is paid in advance!

Inside, Urban Ground Hair Sangwangsimni Station Branch is neither too big nor too small, with white-toned interiors that feel comfortable and cozy.

Not too big, not too small, and I loved the white tones and the comfortable, cozy interior.

I think "stylish" is the right word for it!!

Give your reservation name at the counter, then put your things in the locker with your name on it, off to one side! (Wow.. I've never seen a locker with my name on it before.. haha)

I arrived about 30 minutes early and waited for a bit at a seat by the window! And looking out at the road in the afternoon light.. at times like this.. how good it feels that I took the half day off..😂

Hippie perm vs S-curl: which perm was chosen in the consultation?

After the consultation at Urban Ground Hair Sangwangsimni Station Branch, I chose a medium-length hippie perm (chunky rolls). I originally planned to perm while keeping my long hair, but because of hair damage I decided to shorten the length.

The designer guides you to your seat and the consultation starts on what hairstyle would suit you. I had decided on a perm before visiting, but I couldn't pick between a hippie perm.. or an S-curl..? The designer who looked after me from start to finish listened to all my worries and picked out what suited me! Originally.. I was going to keep my long hair and perm it, but my hair was.. damaged.. so I couldn't do that..ㅠㅠ After talking it through, I settled on a medium-length hippie perm (chunky rolls)!

Medium-length big-roll hippie perm: shampoo, cut, then perm

The medium-length hippie perm went in the order of shampoo, cut, perm. The scalp massage during the shampoo was so refreshing that my tiredness just melted away.

For the makeover we washed my hair first, then cut, then did the perm. The shampoo comes with a cool~ scalp massage like I'd walked into a massage shop, and the fatigue just melts away.. And then my hair gets cut off.. can you see it.. my poor precious hair.. but for the perm, I let it go..😭

Then the designer rolled my hair for the medium-length hippie perm..!! (For a spring makeover, a perm is the way to go!!)

I moved to a seat by the window for the rolling and the neutralizing step.. a time of waiting..

Drinks and snacks while the perm sets

At Urban Ground Hair Sangwangsimni Station Branch, while you wait for the perm they bring you a drink of your choice (coffee, tea or juice) along with snacks. It's a boring, idle stretch, but the snacks the designer set out kept me from getting bored🩷

Tell them whether you want coffee, tea or juice and they bring it with some little treats

The oatmeal-coated chocolate cookie I had that day was my number-one pick! Snack while you wait and you won't notice the time passing~

Medium-length hippie perm before and after: was it worth it?

At first the curls came out so well that they felt strange, but once they settled over time I completely loved them. And so.. I got my new look! For an accurate before and after, here are my own photos..!!

I got a hippie perm in the summer of 2024 (the year before last?) and only had trims since, so my hair had become almost totally natural like this.. haha (3 weeks before the perm..!)

And now, ta-da! It's turned into this frizzy-curly mop!!!! I've always only done perms on long hair.. so this was a new challenge.. Honestly I couldn't get used to it at all, so I couldn't even take a photo at the Sangwangsimni Station salon and just.. left..? So I took these at home, and boohoo.. the curls came out so well that it became the problem.. I felt so awkward looking at myself..ㅠㅠ

But after a little while they settled down to a good degree! Hehe, I totally love it!! Endless thanks to the designer who changed my style for spring..🩷

I agonized so much over what style to get and worried what if it didn't suit me.. but thanks to the designer I was so satisfied 👍👍
