Gyodae Station noodle house packed at dinner: bossam at Daseon

In short

Daseon Kalguksu is a Korean restaurant with 25 years of seafood kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) between Seocho Station and Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. Three diners came for dinner, found both the first and second floors full, took the last open table and ordered a medium bossam (steamed pork with wraps), two servings of kalnakji (spicy octopus noodles) and drinks, which came with unlimited barley rice and kimchi the restaurant says it makes daily. The bossam is meltingly tender next to the fiery octopus broth, so the best order at Daseon Kalguksu is noodles and bossam together.

I'm about to move to Seocho, so I'll probably be checking out a lot of restaurants around here from now on~~ Today is the first spot I discovered near Gyodae Station!! It's Daseon Kalguksu! It's already so famous that I really wanted to try it, but guess what — I went for dinner and even though it's a two-story building, every single seat was taken?!! We managed to snag the last open table and had a delicious meal~~ We ordered three menu items and they were so good I was genuinely shocked 😄 Let me introduce Daseon Kalguksu, a Korean restaurant near Gyodae Station!

Daseon Kalguksu sits between Seocho Station and Gyodae Station! I can also recommend it to anyone looking for a Seocho restaurant with parking~~ There aren't that many spots though, so it's better to call ahead!

It's a standalone two-story building with a terrace on the second floor, which would feel really nice to eat on~~ How about treating this as your outdoor dining spot near Gyodae Station!

Both floors of Daseon Kalguksu packed at dinnertime

The first floor was completely full so we went up to the second floor, where there was only one table left, right by the stairs! So this photo was actually taken right as our food came out 😁

What three people ordered: medium bossam and kalnakji for two

Here's the menu at Daseon Kalguksu! They say it's a 25-year-old seafood kalguksu restaurant, and besides the noodles, their jeon (pan-fried pancake), bossam, and sukhoe (blanched seafood) are also famous, so you could really just order whatever suits your taste~~ There were three of us — guess what we picked!

  • Bossam (medium)
  • Kalnakji (spicy octopus noodle soup) x2
  • And drinks, drinks, drinks....

Unlimited barley rice and kimchi made fresh every day

The barley rice and side dishes came out right after we ordered!! And get this — the barley rice was unlimited refill!! But everything was served in such generous portions that we couldn't even manage a refill haha! We swirled the gochujang (red pepper paste) that's on every table and ate it that way!

Spicy kimchi made fresh daily

And that gorgeous-looking kimchi! It was spicy and so delicious, and apparently they make it fresh every single day!! Amazing! They also gave us lettuce wraps~ and since we ordered bossam and mandu (dumplings), a lot of sauce came out too!

How good is the bossam at Daseon Kalguksu?

The bossam arrived and wow,,, it looked so tender!! I got really excited, and even the chives laid underneath smelled amazing.

Medium-size bossam served over a bed of chives

The three of us, digging in each our own way ✨ Wrapping it up, eating it with the chives~ eating it plain~ Whatever magic they worked on this bossam,, it truly melts in your mouth!

How spicy is the kalnakji octopus broth?

Next up, kalnakji! Daseon is actually just as famous for its kalnakji! It came topped with plump octopus~

Two servings of kalnakji topped with whole octopus

Eating these two together is such a great combo! And it's so filling, as a bonus!

Giant octopus!!!!

Octopus cut up and eaten together with the kalguksu noodles

We cut it up well and ate it with the noodles~~ The broth looked bright red so I was worried about how spicy it might be,, but it wasn't too spicy at all — just pleasantly spicy!! Recommended for anyone who loves that spicy kick!

Verdict: order the kalguksu and the bossam together

From the kimchi to the main dishes to the side mandu, there wasn't a single thing at Daseon Kalguksu that wasn't delicious..! It's clearly famous for a reason~~ The bossam was especially incredible for me,, so I definitely recommend ordering both the kalguksu and the bossam 😆
