Traveling around Aewol, Jeju, I was trying to figure out what to eat for lunch, and I thought — since I'm in Jeju, I have to try a bowl of pork noodles! So I went to Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch. 😊

What the family of three ordered, and what each bowl costs

Bone-broth pork noodles ₩10,000, dongchimi bibim noodles ₩10,000, pork rice soup ₩10,000. After some thought we decided: one warm soup, one cold mixed noodle, one rice soup for the kid! So we ordered bone-broth pork noodles + dongchimi bibim noodles + pork rice soup.

Bone-broth pork noodles: the first bowl to try in Jeju

The first thing we tried was, of course, the bone-broth pork noodles. Pork noodles are the dish everyone thinks of at least once when they're in Jeju. The milky bone broth was topped with a generous amount of Jeju pork, so just looking at it felt satisfying! Eating the warm broth along with the noodles and meat made me feel full and comforted.

Dongchimi bibim noodles, the cold and refreshing option

A completely different charm from the warm bone-broth pork noodles — the dongchimi bibim noodles! Ordering the pork noodles and the bibim noodles together to share turned out to be a great combination.

This dish is made with dongchimi (watery radish kimchi) broth, a special seasoning sauce, and Jeju pork. Taking a bite of the warm bone-broth pork noodles and then a bite of the cool dongchimi bibim noodles was fun to alternate between. The portion was generous too, so just looking at it felt filling, and the crunchy cucumber and bean sprouts kept the texture lively and fun to eat. The cool dongchimi broth mixed with the tangy seasoning really woke up the appetite. If you like your noodles cool and tangy, make sure to order the dongchimi bibim noodles too.

Pork rice soup, the bowl ordered for the child

Traveling with a kid, you end up looking for dishes that are filling and come with rice. The pork rice soup is generously loaded with lean Jeju pork, and the rice is toryeom-style — soaked and warmed in the rich bone broth — so it made for a good, warm bowl. Since it comes with both rice and broth together, it was a great pick for a kid's meal.

The side dishes that came with the meal were also nicely put together. I especially kept reaching for the kimchi and the pickled vegetables — they were delicious. Adding a bit of kimchi to the noodles was tasty, and the crunchy pickles perked up the appetite too.

There's also a self-serve bar, so if you run low on any side dish while eating, you can just grab more yourself — very convenient.

Since most people get around Jeju by rental car, parking info matters too. We used the large Randy's Donuts parking lot, which offers 1 hour of free parking.

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch was great because we got to try three different things — bone-broth pork noodles, refreshing dongchimi bibim noodles, and pork rice soup for the kid — all in one meal.
