You never get tired of it. And definitely buy the cream too!

We did a Saturday opening run at Chamsae Bori (참새보리식빵) in Bucheon! If you're looking for a great Bucheon bakery, you should know about the line before you go. This time I went as part of a sponsored experience, but it's actually a bakery I already visit regularly, usually right at Saturday opening haha. On a mid-October Saturday morning, my girlfriend and I picked out ₩19,900 worth of bread within the ₩20,000 we were given.

What time should you get to Chamsae Bori on a weekend?

Short answer: on weekends, be there for the 10am opening! We arrived around 10am on Saturday and there were fewer than 10 people ahead of us. The line kept getting longer after that!

Once I went at a leisurely 12pm on a Saturday, and the bread was all sold out and the shop already closed ㅠㅠ (sob). Since then I always go at 10 sharp. Weekdays seem a bit more relaxed. I saw another review from someone who went around 10:30am on a weekday and chose without anything being sold out.

While you wait, there's a tasting of bread topped with mascarpone cream, so it never got boring! After eating that, it's harder NOT to buy the cream lol.

How to check if Chamsae Bori has sold out today

The listed hours are 10:00–20:00, but the shop closes earlier once the bread sells out. So the notice of the day matters more than the timetable.

The shop's own method is the KakaoTalk open chat 'Chamsae Bori Notice' (참새보리식빵 공지). They post sold-out news and announcements there (according to the business's introduction)! If you're going in the afternoon, check it before you set off! They say they hardly answer the phone because they're busy baking. You can leave a text message with questions, but the reply may not come right away.

The signature items at Chamsae Bori are three loaves: Grand Prize sticky barley (₩6,000), grain sticky barley (₩6,500) and rye sticky barley (₩3,700). The shop introduces itself as a barley loaf specialist that won the Grand Prize on SBS's "Master of Living" and was ranked No. 1 in a national "best loaf in Korea" selection, and the Grand Prize certificate from the 'Battle of Bread – Loaf Edition' episode hangs in the shop.

Top pick: the rye sticky-barley loaf with chewy cranberries

My top pick is the rye sticky barley. You can bite into cranberries, and it tasted nuttier than the grain one. Bits of grain turn up here and there too, which makes eating it fun! The grain sticky barley leans mild and nutty. Both are super soft, and even I, who don't love bread that much, ate it happily haha.

I didn't buy the No. 1 Grand Prize sticky barley loaf this time. My girlfriend had tried it before and said the rye is tastier, so we picked something else. For reference, the grain loaf came sliced, and the rye loaf came whole.

What to buy with your loaf at Chamsae Bori

First is the mascarpone milk cream (₩3,700 each). According to my girlfriend, it has a cheesy aroma, so the flavor is deeper than ordinary whipped cream. Dip your bread in it generously and that's a snack, done!

Second is the potbelly financier (₩3,000), a small French almond cake. According to the price tag, it's made with 100% milk cream. If you buy 4 financiers, the 'Sparrow House' box packaging is free, so it looked good for gifts too.

How to store Chamsae Bori bread: room temperature and freezer

A sign in the shop says to eat the bread within 3 days at room temperature, and if you're keeping it longer, to seal it from the start and freeze it.

In our experience, eating it right after buying is the best. We were hungry so we ate the rye loaf right away, and the grain loaf a while later… and it was clearly less good than eating it right away;; what a shame… It's perfect as a morning or afternoon snack with coffee or milk. My girlfriend says she never gets tired of it and is already on her 3rd bag lol.

Getting to Chamsae Bori from Bucheon Station, and parking

To reach Chamsae Bori, Bucheon main branch, leave Bucheon Station by Exit 2, turn right and walk about 600m toward Incheon (615m by the map listing). Parking isn't available, so I always walk. On days I go to Chamsae Bori, I just treat it as a stroll and it feels easy haha.
