Hangover soup restaurant in Euljiro: beef hot pot & porridge, Paldal
In short
Paldal Neoguri Haejang Euljiro 3-ga Station branch is a new hangover soup (haejangguk) restaurant right outside Exit 8 of Euljiro 3-ga Station in Jung-gu, Seoul, serving mainly hangover soups with rice at lunch. For an evening meal with drinks, the writer ordered the Palpal beef jeongol (beef hot pot, 2-3 servings) with beef shank, tripe and boneless beef, mixed rice into the broth, then finished by making beef porridge in the pot themselves. Generous portions of meat and broth make Paldal Neoguri Haejang a place worth returning to for an Euljiro office lunch or team dinner.

Where is Paldal Neoguri Haejang Euljiro 3-ga Station branch?
Paldal Neoguri Haejang Euljiro 3-ga Station branch (팔팔너구리해장 을지로3가역점) is a brand-new hangover soup restaurant that is right in front of you the moment you come out of Exit 8 of Euljiro 3-ga Station (Lines 2 and 3). There's no parking, so public transport is much easier! The name alone is so cute 🦝, and I stopped by for a hangover cure and, well, hangover drinks too.
Hours are daily 11:00-23:00, with a break from 15:00 to 17:00 and last order at 22:00. It was raining that day, and it's so close to the exit that I didn't even need an umbrella. Location: top tier 👍

What is the atmosphere like in the evening?
If you go just after the break ends a little past 5 pm, it's quiet, but by around 6 the tables fill right up. We arrived a little after 5 and nobody was there, so I took photos of the interior! But by 6 o'clock the tables were totally packed, and there was a big group having a company dinner next to us.
Of course, grown-ups know how to drink while curing a hangover!! 🍺 A sip of hangover broth, a glass of soju, and the drinks just keep going down!

What did we order at Paldal Neoguri Haejang?
At lunch, Paldal Neoguri Haejang is an Euljiro 3-ga restaurant whose main menu is simple hangover soup with rice (gukbap). We came in the evening, so after debating between the Palpal deboned rib suyuk (boiled pork) and the jeongol (hot pot), we ordered the Palpal beef jeongol (2-3 servings)!
They set out side dishes fitting for a gukbap place: two kinds of clean-tasting kimchi and pickled chili peppers, and that wasabi green onion soy sauce is the real kick here!!

First impressions of the Palpal beef jeongol
The beef jeongol came out fast after ordering. Wow, it looks so healthy. It gives off kind of a neungi mushroom baeksuk (chicken soup) vibe..? You could see with your own eyes how deeply the broth had been brewed.

It's a "Palpal" haejang place, so we boiled it palpal-palpal (bubbling hard)! Neoguri is a famous Euljiro rice spot, but the beef jeongol is a totally perfect drinking snack!!! When I stirred around the inside, there were even more vegetables hiding, like napa cabbage and chives.

Is there enough meat in the Palpal beef jeongol?
Even the small size (2-3 servings) of the Palpal beef jeongol is packed with aroni-sagol (beef shank), tripe and deboned beef, so there's really a lot of meat. I ordered the small one and wondered if it would be a bit skimpy, but the deboned beef just kept coming no matter how much we ate...✨️
And that tripe is seriously tender and delicious. Totally soft but chewy at the same time..

Can you put rice in the jeongol broth?
The broth is great as a drinking snack, but it genuinely calls out for rice, so I added a bowl of steamed rice!!! This broth tells you exactly why this is a gukbap restaurant. I don't normally like carbs, but while sipping the broth I honestly started craving rice?

Mixed in like this, it's a full bowl of gukbap. The broth is plentiful too, enough for two people to have rice in it! I'm a total broth lover, so it's a real shame when stews or soups have too little broth, but Paldal Neoguri Haejang's broth amount gets a full pass 👍

The meat portion passes too! The generosity here is the best. Drinking snacks usually come in small portions, but maybe because it's famous as an Euljiro rice spot, the snack portions are really big too. Lots of people were eating the rib suyuk, and I bet that's pretty tasty as well.

How do you make the finishing porridge for the beef jeongol?
The finishing porridge at Paldal Neoguri Haejang is made by yourself, and the pro tip is to add a lot more broth than you'd expect. I'd already had rice, but what's the Korean way to finish? Porridge, of course. These days, people who order porridge over fried rice are a level above!

You make the porridge yourself!! The sesame oil smell is insane 😭 I ordered one porridge, and it looks like the amount of two bowls of rice.
The tip for making porridge: you have to add much more broth than you'd think‼️ My husband objected at first, but in the end me, the housewife, was right~~~ Add lots of broth and keep stirring!

The amount is huge, right? Korean porridge is all about effort. The more you stir and the longer you boil, the better it gets, pure magic. This is real beef porridge!

Is Paldal Neoguri Haejang Euljiro worth returning to?
Paldal Neoguri Haejang in Euljiro is good for drinking alongside meat snacks, and also good for a hearty gukbap lunch 🦝 For an Euljiro office worker, a place with this much food and flavor opening up is a total blessing 💯 Definitely coming back next time!!
