I wanted to enjoy some lovely time to myself somewhere with a nice atmosphere for the first time in a while, so I made a reservation in advance and visited Noju (노주) in Mangwon-dong. It is right in the alley behind Exit 2 of Mangwon Station, so the access is excellent from the start.
A compact, polished space that is also lovely for anniversaries
Up the stairs on the second floor, I was welcomed into a compact and neat space. One table was set with a bouquet, presumably for a reservation; whoever those mystery ladies were, I hope they had a happy time over a delicious meal 😌😘

I was shown to the bar table, and because I had reserved ahead, a guide to that day’s course was waiting on the table. I chose Noju’s Signature 10-course menu for dinner. Ten courses in the ₩80,000 range? The lineup already felt different.
The start of Noju’s Signature 10-course menu
1. Focaccia | Fig / Butter

First came the fig-butter focaccia, which I was told is made in-house, as the pre-meal bread.

The nutty focaccia, butter with a gentle fig aroma and little bites of fig flesh, made such a good start to the meal.
2. Welcome to NOJU | Beet / Endive / Arancini
The three amuse-bouches that followed caught my eye right away with their adorable presentation.
First, a tart bringing together truffle-ricotta filling and beet pickles cured in honey vinegar. I loved the way the thin tart shattered—it was so fun. The truffle aroma spread first, then the beet pickle flavor built as I ate, filling my mouth with richness. Pure happy-mouth feeling!

Then there was endive topped with shrimp, cucumber, mushrooms, and more: a familiar-yet-new flavor that was memorable. And the arancini, with its incredible sesame-oil aioli aroma. Personally, I thought these dishes expressed Noju’s identity best.
3. Fluke | Miso / Bushclover Salt

Next came aged fluke with Japanese vinegared miso, dill green oil, and pickled red onion. It kept the fish’s savory nuttiness while completely cutting through any oily richness. In one bite, savory and bright flavors burst together in my mouth.
4. Onion | Onion / Comté / Crouton / Yuja Ricotta
For the next dish—caramelized onion, Comté, yuja ricotta cheese, and croutons—I could see the chef diligently whipping up foam with a hand mixer before it arrived.
The soft texture of that carefully piled foam with the perfectly caramelized onion was so outrageously good that I could not help saying, “This is crazy.” Why can’t I get this depth of flavor at home?ㅠ I marveled to myself and scraped the plate clean.
5. Abalone | Taean Kim Jangsu Gim / Popo Farm Rice

Next, a charcoal-grilled abalone dish was served over risotto made with Taean Kim Jangsu gim (roasted seaweed). The abalone was wonderfully chewy.

It had a familiar flavor from somewhere in my memory, and I kept wondering what it was until it suddenly came to me—do you all know odari, dried squid legs? Haha. Perhaps it was the buttery flavor, but it tasted like the nutty odari I ate as a child, luxuriously elevated: familiar yet refined. It was a moment that naturally made me smile, haha.
6. Cannelloni | Chicken Breast / Beef Consommé / Yuja

Around the middle of the course, a warm soup dish arrived, and the flow of the meal was perfect.

This fragrant dish featured grilled chicken breast in consommé, generously poured over with warm beef stock. Chicken breast can be this tender..? If it were chicken breast like this, I could eat it every day 🥹💕
7. Black Tiger Shrimp | Charcoal-Grilled Black Tiger Shrimp
Rich, springy charcoal-grilled black tiger shrimp. What more is there to say? It was delicious.
8. Signature Gnocchi | Truffle / Potato
Finally, Noju’s highlight—the truffle gnocchi—made its appearance.

Covered generously with Italian summer truffle, this gnocchi (Italian potato dumplings) was a standout even among Mangwon-dong pasta dishes.

Unlike the usual shapes, it was square, which made it distinctive. Together with the truffle, the potato’s natural aroma and chewy texture filled my mouth; it truly had the finish worthy of a signature dish.
9. Chuck Flap Tail | Zucchini / Jalapeño
The main chuck flap tail steak came with zucchini garnish and spicy jalapeño, which neatly refreshed the meat’s flavor that could otherwise have felt heavy.

If you have a preferred doneness, mention it before the course begins for an even more perfect experience!
10. Mille-Feuille | Peach / Coffee / Pastry

For the final dessert, I had mille-feuille with coffee cream, peach compote, and walnut ice cream.

The crisp mille-feuille and jelly-like compote texture came together beautifully, making even the finish feel abundant.
Good-value fine dining I want to revisit with wine

Overall, the quality and care in the cooking stood out so much that it was hard to believe the price was in the ₩80,000 range. This was genuinely satisfying value-for-money fine dining that delivered both emotional value and practical value, and a polished Mangwon-dong restaurant I definitely want to return to soon for a glass of wine with my boyfriend.
If you are looking for good-value fine dining in Mapo for a special day, or a Mangwon-dong restaurant with a lovely atmosphere, I highly recommend Noju in Mangwon-dong!
