Jamsil Station lunch gukbap sets with sundae and intestines: Boseung

In short

Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is a 24-hour gukbap (rice-and-soup) restaurant on the main street of the Bangi food alley in Songpa, Seoul, near exit 10 of Jamsil Station and Seokchon Lake. On a weekday visit at 1pm, the one-person special set was ordered two ways — with sundae gukbap (blood sausage soup, ₩16,000) and with intestine gukbap (₩16,500) — each served with osori pork, pork jowl, head meat and sundae alongside the soup. Boseung Hoegwan's special set is far more generous than a plain bowl of gukbap, making it a filling, good-value lunch.

I arrived a little past 1pm on a weekday, thinking it would be past the lunch rush and quiet, but I was surprised to see so many customers eating. Must be a real gukbap hotspot!! My heart was racing haha.

How to make Boseung Hoegwan's gukbap taste even better

On the wall of Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch there were also tips for enjoying the gukbap even more.

  • 1. Boseung's gukbap comes with seasoning paste (dadaegi) and perilla powder as standard, so skip them if you don't want them, to taste
  • 2. Add salted shrimp (saeujeot) and chives to taste
  • 3. Ask for garlic and onion if you want them

I only noticed this near the end of my meal, so I missed out on ordering the garlic and onion from tip 3, ugh. If you like garlic and onion, apparently they make it even tastier, so be sure to ask for them alongside your gukbap!!

The menu had a variety of gukbap options like sundaeguk, suyukguk, naejangguk, and bone haejangguk, plus set menus with boiled meat and sundae included, like the sundae-pork jowl boiled meat set and the one-person special set! There were also drinking menu items like bone gamjatang, sundae gopchang jeongol, assorted boiled meat, sundae gopchang stir-fry, mung bean pancake, and seafood pajeon — great options to enjoy alongside drinks!

This was my first time at Boseung, and the kimchi and kkakdugi were really delicious~ They went so well with the gukbap that I asked for a refill!!

How does the sundae gukbap special set taste?

The one-person special set with gukbap, meat, and sundae together

Ta-da, the one-person special set (gukbap + meat + sundae) has arrived!!

I started with the sundaeguk. The broth was creamy white and warm, coming with seasoning paste and perilla powder mixed in from the start, so there was already a subtle spiciness built into the broth. It was already seasoned well enough that I didn't need to add extra dadaegi, so I could dig right in. The broth was hot and had a deep flavor, and mixing rice into it felt truly filling.

What does the intestine gukbap taste like?

The naejangguk was also delicious, with a different charm from the sundaeguk, so having both let me enjoy a variety of flavors without getting tired of either. The chewy, clean texture unique to intestines paired well with the broth, and because the broth had dadaegi mixed in, mixing in rice brought out a natural savory, spicy flavor.

The meat and sundae that come with the special set

I also loved the meat lineup that came with it — osori, pork jowl, and head meat all together, so it was fun picking through the different cuts. Rather than eating just one type of meat, each cut had a different texture and flavor, which paired nicely with the gukbap!

Sundae served as part of the set
The full generous spread with gukbap, meat, and sundae

And with sundae included too, it was really generous. Getting to enjoy meat and sundae alongside the gukbap, rather than just the soup alone, meant I nearly burst, ugh. If you're near Jamsil Station or in Bangi-dong looking for a hearty Korean meal, or just craving a filling bowl of gukbap, give Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch a try for lunch~ Getting to enjoy warm gukbap with a variety of meats and sundae all at once made it great for both value and heartiness~
