Four servings for two at Chodaechang, a Dangsan Station Korean BBQ

Chodaechang, the Blue Ribbon-famous restaurant, apparently opened a branch near Dangsan Station too..? I ran straight over. The verdict? If you love offal, get over here right now. I'm a teuk-yang, makchang, and galbisal killer, and this place was seriously delicious.. Let me leave you a real, well-fed review.

Where is Chodaechang Dangsan Station, and where do you park?

Chodaechang Dangsan Station is on the 2nd floor of the Olive Young building at 223 Dangsan-ro, 2nd floor, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, right in front of Dangsan Station Exit 11. It's open daily from 17:00 to 23:00, year-round.

This Dangsan Station favorite, Chodaechang, is a corkage-free restaurant..! That's truly precious ㅠㅠ They even give you a 10% discount if you reserve for 5:00pm, 5:30pm, or 6:00pm.

What is the Chodaechang dining room like? Spacious and newly opened

Since it's a newly opened restaurant, the interior was super clean and comfortable!

I visited around 7pm on a weekday, and there were a lot of middle-aged gentlemen, plus a lot of tables having company dinners. You know a place full of ajussi customers is a guaranteed good restaurant, right? haha

There's even free parking in the building, so anyone driving here doesn't need to worry about parking!

The chairs had backrests too, which was comfortable! The tables were wide and spaced well apart, so it was great for conversation ㅠㅠ Perfect for a Dangsan company dinner or gathering.. I had made a reservation and got seated at this spot!

Chodaechang Dangsan Station menu prices and side dishes

I thought "Chodaechang" (as in daechang, large intestine) would only serve daechang-based dishes, but they had a wide variety of grilled options like teuk-yang, galbisal, gopchang, daechang, and makchang. Even people who can't eat daechang can totally come here. The spoons and chopsticks were hygienically wrapped too, which I loved.

The two of us ordered 2 servings of salted galbisal grill / 1 serving of teuk-yang grill / 1 serving of makchang grill — 4 servings total! We honestly meant to just eat 2 servings.. but it was so delicious we ended up ordering 2 more, haha.

The basic side dishes were seasoned lettuce, corn salad, and pickled garlic scapes! Clean, simple sides that went well with the meat. There was also a chili soy dipping sauce.

Chodaechang Dangsan Station also gives you a free kimchi mari guksu (kimchi noodle soup) if you leave a receipt review!

And the Kirin draft beer was only ₩5,900? Couldn't resist that, haha.

They say the daechang at this Dangsan favorite, Chodaechang, is always Korean beef (hanwoo) daechang!

Salted galbisal for two: thick, scored cuts of beef rib meat

Before diving into the meat, first things first — a sip of Kirin draft to cleanse the palate 🍺

The staff first set up the charcoal! The fire was really strong, which was great for grilling. The ventilation was strong too, so there was almost no meat smell or smoke — loved that!

First up to demolish: the salted galbisal grill (₩18,000)! It comes with garlic and kkwari peppers (shishito-style peppers). Wow.. the color of the meat alone looked amazing ㅠㅠ

Something I loved about Chodaechang! The staff grill the meat completely from start to finish, so all we had to do was sit back and eat.

Every galbisal grill I've had before was sliced into long strips, but Chodaechang's salted galbisal was thick-cut, with score marks cut into it here and there. Cook faster~~

Because the staff grilled it professionally from start to finish, it came out perfectly cooked and so delicious ㅠㅠ

You've got to try the first bite plain~~ Wow.. the texture was seriously bouncy and chewy!!! Golden and crisp on the outside, packed with juices inside — so good ㅠㅠ Also great dipped in the soy sauce.

Next up, galbisal with pickled garlic scapes! Topping the tender galbisal with a bit of pickled garlic scape gave it a tangy crunch that cut through any richness. I also ate it with the grilled kkwari peppers haha. So clean and delicious!!

One serving of teuk-yang: can you order single servings at Chodaechang?

And now my personal favorite, the teuk-yang grill (₩21,000)! Just looking at it makes you crave soju.. Teuk-yang must be tricky to grill too, but the staff handled it all ㅠㅠ We just sat there waiting, watching.

Teuk-yang really is all about that bouncy, chewy texture..! The more you chew, the nuttier it gets — so delicious. And Chodaechang Dangsan lets you order single servings from the start, which was great for trying a bit of everything!

Wow.. this is the kind of taste that makes the drinks flow. A sip of beer, a bite of teuk-yang, and the whole day's stress just melts away~

Doenjang sul-bap, the rice dish to order mid-meal

To restock on carbs, we ordered the doenjang sul-bap (soybean paste rice, ₩7,000) too! Oh wow.. the portion was generous, packed with ingredients, and truly delicious;; The flavor was like homemade doenjang I love — not sweet like a typical doenjang stew but savory with a spicy kick!

Not sweet, just a clean flavor — exactly my style. By the end I basically inhaled it and cleared the whole bowl.

One serving of makchang, with a mildly spicy seasoning

Makchang (grilled pork large intestine, ₩20,000) can't be skipped either. The makchang comes pre-seasoned and is slightly spicy, which made it perfect to finish on!

Ooh.. it was seriously tender and chewy and so delicious. Already craving it again.. Going in the order galbisal → teuk-yang → makchang meant each had a different texture, so we never got tired of eating.

As always, Koreans have a separate stomach reserved for carbs.. Even feeling like we were about to burst, we still ordered the eolkeun-i ramyeon (spicy instant noodles, ₩4,000)

I'm a fan of firm, springy noodles, and these were nicely springy, with a spicy broth — a great palate-cleansing finish!

Is Chodaechang Dangsan Station worth it? The verdict

Chodaechang Dangsan Station, a Blue Ribbon favorite that opened right in front of Dangsan Station! From galbisal to teuk-yang to makchang, everything was so delicious, and I loved that the staff grilled everything from start to finish so we could just relax and eat. The restaurant is also new, clean, and comfortable, making it a great spot for meals with friends or a company dinner near Dangsan Station — highly recommend!
