Why we chose Cafe Dong-i Sicheol for lunch after a Samsung Lions game

My family are Samsung Lions fans, so we visit Daegu often to watch games in person. After staying overnight in Daegu, deciding where to eat lunch before the long drive home actually matters a lot.

Last time we went to a Chinese restaurant on the way home and ended up thirsty and bloated the whole drive, so I really felt the value of Korean food. This time, after sleeping in at the hotel following the game and checking out late, we stopped by Cafe Dong-i Sicheol before setting off for home.

Cafe Dong-i is a chain with quite a few locations around Daegu. We had lunch there once before and liked it enough to come back this time.

Above all, my daughter loves the interior — it's clean and pretty. The menu is varied too, and the set meals come out neatly arranged, making it comfortable for a family meal.

Grilled jeyuk bokkeum set, bulgogi yeolmu bibim set, kimchi jeon and fried mandu

This time we ordered the Dong-i grilled jeyuk bokkeum (fire-grilled spicy pork stir-fry) set, the bulgogi yeolmu bibim (mixed rice with beef and young radish greens) set, kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake), and fried mandu (dumplings).

The grilled jeyuk bokkeum had a nice smoky char and went great with rice,

and the bulgogi yeolmu bibimbap, mixed together with the meat and greens, was filling but not heavy.

With the kimchi jeon and fried mandu added on top, it was a really generous lunch for the three of us.

The kimchi jeon was so crispy that my daughter took one bite, her eyes went wide, and she told me to try it too.

The fried mandu was seriously crispy too!! So good! You have to try it.

When we go watch baseball, we tend to eat quick stuff like burgers or fried chicken. But on days when we have a long drive home, eating a proper rice meal really settles the stomach and gives us energy. So for our family, this place feels like the perfect lunch spot near Sinmae Station.

What is on the self-service bar: rice, gim and fried eggs you cook yourself

What I especially like about Cafe Dong-i Sicheol is the self-service bar.

You can freely grab rice and gim, and even fry your own eggs. Making our own fried eggs was fun last time too, and this time my daughter gave it a try herself.

Except somehow the fried egg turned into scrambled eggs along the way.

Still, it turned out pretty tasty, and she had fun making a fried egg for her dad too.

Free baby seaweed soup and a kids' menu at Cafe Dong-i Sicheol

As a parent, there was one more thing I really appreciated.

They offer free seaweed soup for baby guests and have a kids' menu ready too. These days, no-kids zones are common, so seeing a place this thoughtful toward families with young children genuinely warmed my heart.

With a wide range of menu options, neatly plated food, and an easy setup for visiting with kids, this place seems like a great fit for anyone looking for a family meal spot in Daegu. There's also hutgae tea and snacks on offer, and they're really tasty too!

We had lunch here before heading home last time too, and this time we once again filled up hearty at Cafe Dong-i before leaving Daegu.

The baseball game was great fun, and eating my daughter's scrambled-eggs-not-fried-eggs made for another fun memory. Next time we come to Daegu for a Lions game, I think we'll be craving that Sinmae Station lunch spot and head back to Cafe Dong-i Sicheol.
