15,000 won weekend lunch special in Hapjeong, Seoul: Ragu Hapjeong

Today I'm sharing my review of Ragu Hapjeong, which I visited a while ago in Hapjeong! Seriously, this was the best ragu pasta I've ever had...! That's exactly why it stuck with me so much — let's get into the Ragu Hapjeong review together!

Where is Ragu Hapjeong? A basement space in a Hapjeong Station alley

Ragu Hapjeong is a Western restaurant located in a basement space at 29 Tojeong-ro 3an-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul. There are spiky trees standing near the entrance — if you've spotted that, you've found the right place!

It felt like eating in Europe with these spiky trees right by the entrance! I thought it was such a unique space! It felt like a secret hideout, which made it even more charming, so I decided to visit right away haha!

There's a menu posted right by the entrance so you can check it out before going in! Overall the prices were really reasonable, and even the steak was priced well for the portion size?!! It's not a burden to eat there as a couple, so I really wanted to recommend it as a date spot!

Inside Ragu Hapjeong: is it good for a date?

Inside, Ragu Hapjeong has wide table spacing and cushioned chairs, making it a cozy space. I thought it'd be perfect for a couple's date or a blind date.

Once you step in, this cozy interior just unfolds in front of you! I really thought it was such a great-atmosphere spot, perfect for a couple's blind date or regular date... The tables are spaced widely apart and the chairs are cushioned, so it was really nice for chatting quietly!

The atmosphere was just so good! The owners were kind too, and overall it had such a calm vibe — that alone made me really happy in the moment haha!

Ordering: the 15,000 won lunch special runs on weekends too

At Ragu Hapjeong I ordered the lunch special grandma ragu pasta, a ragu steak, and a zero-sugar cola. The lunch special comes with salad and pasta together for ₩15,000, and it was available even on weekends.

After a long deliberation, I ordered the lunch special — grandma ragu pasta and a ragu steak, plus a zero-sugar cola! The lunch special menu... was available even on weekends, and the fact that it was only ₩15,000 for salad and pasta together (so shocking...). They even poured the water for us themselves! With all that, I thought the service was really excellent! Kind of like eating at a fancy restaurant!

And soon after, the salad came out! Olives, jalapeños, and plenty of sauce — it was seriously the best appetizer! (I fell in love the moment I tasted it...)

Right around when I was neatly finishing up the salad, the steak arrived! The doneness was just right (medium), and it came with plenty of mashed potato, so it felt like a proper full meal? It was noticeably more generous than steak you'd get at a typical Western restaurant, so it looked hearty right from the start haha!

How does the grandma ragu pasta taste?

Ragu Hapjeong's grandma ragu pasta (할머니 라구 파스타) is a dish with a strong ragu aroma and rich meat and sauce. Even as part of the lunch special, the noodle portion wasn't small.

First up, the grandma ragu pasta! Such a warm, homey name for a dish — the ragu aroma was really strong, so I couldn't help but lick my lips before even taking a bite haha! It's packed with meat and the sauce is really rich, so if you like a deep ragu flavor, you absolutely have to get the ragu pasta here!

The noodles were chewy and cooked just right! So I got to enjoy a properly delicious meal! It's honestly not an exaggeration to say this was the best pasta I've had recently! Even as the lunch special, the noodle portion wasn't skimpy at all, so it really was a satisfying meal...!

Ragu steak cooked medium

Ragu Hapjeong's ragu steak came out cooked medium, served with plenty of mashed potato. Eating it together with the pasta was an especially great combination.

And the steak!!!! Wow, the doneness was insane... seeing that red meat inside was just fantastic...! I thought it looked perfectly cooked, and it turned out even more tender and chewy than expected, so I just kept eating it!!!

The combination with the pasta was just so good, and every bite felt like a little festival in my mouth... I couldn't have been happier haha! If you come to Ragu Hapjeong, I definitely recommend trying this!!!!

Garlic baguette, three pieces

And the garlic baguette I ordered on the side! Three pieces came as standard, and that felt like just the right amount?! There was a nice hint of garlic aroma, and it was so crispy yet soft that it worked well as a dessert at the end too! I dipped mine in the ragu sauce, and that was a real treat!

Verdict: why Ragu Hapjeong works as a Hapjeong date spot

Before I knew it, I'd properly stuffed myself full... a nice memory made at Ragu Hapjeong haha! If you want a hearty, delicious meal that's still budget-friendly, I really, really recommend visiting Ragu Hapjeong!
