Huni Gejang Cheonan Main Branch: location, hours and parking
Huni Gejang Cheonan Main Branch is on Taejosan-gil (Yuryang-dong), Dongnam-gu, Cheonan, and it is open daily from 10:50 to 21:00. Groups are welcome too.
Since it's in Yuryang-dong, it's a bit hard to get to without a car. Luckily the parking lot is big, so I had no parking worries at all.
What's on the Huni Gejang menu and how much does it cost?
The crab set (kkotgejang jeongsik) at Huni Gejang is ₩25,000 per person.

There were two menu options, the crab set and the roe-filled set (albaegi jeongsik). The lineup is the same, but the roe set includes crab roe, so it costs ₩15,000 more!

You order by tablet, which was easy and convenient.

When I visited, there was also a review event: write a Naver review and get either 4 marinated shrimp or half a spicy marinated crab as a free extra.

Side dishes, butter rice and the volcano steamed egg
The basic sides were seaweed stems, bracken namul (seasoned greens), kimchi, soft tofu, seaweed sheets and flying fish roe. The seasoning was just right across the board and everything tasted great! The roe costs extra, while the other sides are refillable.

They also bring butter as standard, and this was the kicker. Swirl the butter into your rice and eat it with the crab, and the combination is seriously the best.
The steamed egg (gyeran-jjim) came out overflowing like a volcano, so there's really a lot of it. It's soft and moist, perfect for scooping up as a light starter before the crab.

What comes in the crab set, and how is the marinated shrimp?
We ordered the crab set, and because the stone-pot rice needs time to cook, I think the food took about 10 minutes to arrive.

The set came with 1 soy crab, half a spicy crab and 2 marinated shrimp. The portion is generous overall, and every piece was big.

You peel the marinated shrimp yourself, and

the shells come off cleanly, so it wasn't hard at all.

Put a spoonful of rice on a plump shrimp and eat them together: salty but not too salty, with a chewy texture. Delicious.
Huni Gejang soy crab wrapped in seaweed with flying fish roe

The soy crab at Huni Gejang was truly packed with meat in the body. Just press down with your hand and the meat keeps coming out.

I scooped out just the crab meat, put it on a sheet of seaweed with flying fish roe and ate it all together. The nuttiness of the seaweed, the salty crab meat and the popping roe made each bite feel completely full.

The soy crab isn't overly salty; it's sweet and savory, so the seasoning was just right with rice. The shell was also full of crab innards, and scraping it clean and mixing it into the rice was a rich, nutty, absolutely amazing bite.

Is Huni Gejang's spicy marinated crab hot?
The spicy crab (yangnyeom gejang) was huge, covered in so much sauce that you couldn't even see the body. The first bite had a slight zing to the seasoning, but I got used to it quickly and it tasted better and better as I ate.

The body had a tremendous amount of crab meat, and there was meat in the legs too.

I picked out just the meat and mixed it into rice, and it was a total rice thief (the Korean nickname for dishes that make you finish your rice).
The rice comes in a stone pot, so at the end you can have warm nurungji (scorched rice) too, which is a perfect finish.
Huni Gejang interior and seating

The restaurant in Cheonan is very spacious overall, so it never felt cramped. There are plenty of tables seating 6 to 8 people, which makes it good for families or group gatherings. The window side is divided by walls like little compartments, so it feels a bit private, and the space is wide enough to eat comfortably.
