I was on the hunt for a nice-atmosphere Chinese restaurant near Suwon City Hall and this time I finally made it to Gang's Duck. It's a Chinese dining restaurant in Ingye-dong that mainly serves Peking duck (Beijing duck), which isn't something you find easily around here, so I'd been curious about it for a while.
I booked ahead through Naver Reservation before visiting. They recommend reserving in advance for the Peking duck and dongpo-yuk (braised pork belly), since portions are limited and it helps them nail the quality.

What is Gang's Duck near Suwon City Hall like inside?
Gang's Duck felt quite different from a typical Chinese restaurant. It's run by chefs with hotel Chinese-restaurant backgrounds, and they say they bring that hotel experience and know-how into the cooking here.

The space is built around a black-tone, modern, hip look, so it felt right for a date or a special meal, but also for drinks with friends.

The outdoor space especially has its own yajang (open-air pub) feel, different from the indoors — on a nice day, eating outside there would be great. It's also a fine spot for a work dinner or group gathering, and for group reservations they'll help set up tables to fit your party.

What comes with the half Peking duck at 39,000 won?
The dish I was most looking forward to was, of course, the half Peking duck at ₩39,000! It comes with the duck plus scallion strips, cucumber strips, a special yajang sauce, yabing (thin wheat pancakes), and crystal sugar.

Rather than eating it plain, the way to go is wrapping the duck, scallion, and cucumber in a wheat pancake with sauce. With the crisp-roasted duck skin, tender meat, and crunchy vegetables all together, the texture was genuinely fun.

The scallion and cucumber strips especially cut through the duck's distinct richness cleanly, and with the special yajang sauce added, I just kept reaching for more, bite after bite.

Maybe because it's not a dish you eat every day, the whole meal felt a bit more special. If you're looking for something different while checking out Suwon City Hall restaurants, the Peking duck is worth ordering at least once.

Book ahead: reservations drop 30 minutes past your time
Since Peking duck and dongpo-yuk are limited in quantity, you might not get to eat them whenever you want, so I'd recommend reserving before your visit. And if you're 30 minutes late past your reservation time, it gets automatically canceled, so double-check your timing.

Wrapping the duck in a wheat pancake like this is basically the unwritten rule — and seeing my wife, who normally can't eat cucumber, happily wrapping it in with the cucumber anyway, I really felt like, okay, this must actually be that good, haha.

They explained that the first skin portion is meant to be dipped in sugar, and the rest should be wrapped in the wheat pancakes!

Free fried duck bones at Gang's Duck
During the meal they also brought out complimentary duck bone chips. I was curious what these would taste like, and they turned out to be a bigger treat than expected — fried crisp and easy to pick at, a fun, different item to try.

Getting to enjoy even the duck bones this way, right after the Peking duck itself, felt like a fun touch unique to Gang's Duck.

Peking duck fried rice, 12,000 won: mild enough for a three-year-old
We also ordered the Peking duck fried rice for ₩12,000. The savory aroma was really nice, and the crunchy fried rice bits mixed throughout gave it a texture quite different from regular fried rice.

Best of all, it wasn't spicy or heavily seasoned. We had our three-year-old with us, and surprisingly, she ate the duck fried rice really well. Eating out with a toddler often means Chinese menus are tricky, since a lot of the dishes run spicy or strongly seasoned, but thanks to this fried rice, our little one got to enjoy the meal along with us. It's mild and light in flavor, so it's worth keeping in mind if you're visiting with kids. 👍

Parking at Gang's Duck in Ingye-dong, Suwon
We drove, and there was free parking available nearby, so parking wasn't a hassle. Around Suwon City Hall and Ingye-dong, parking can be a bit of a headache when you're out for a meal, so this is worth noting if you're coming by car. Gang's Duck is open daily from 11:00 to 23:00.

After this visit, Gang's Duck felt less like your typical Chinese restaurant and more like a Chinese dining spot where you can enjoy a range of dishes centered on Peking duck, in a proper atmosphere. Between the half Peking duck and the duck fried rice, it was plenty for a full meal, and with the nice interior, it'd work well for a date or a gathering too. Best of all, our three-year-old ate the duck fried rice so well that it turned out to be a satisfying family meal too!
If you're looking for Suwon City Hall or Ingye-dong restaurants and want to try something a little different from the usual Chinese menu, give the Peking duck at Gang's Duck a try.
