Ilsan hair salon for a volume perm on thin, limp hair: Hair Onsae

My hair had been feeling dry and flat lately, so I went looking for a place that does good perms and ended up at Hair Onsae (헤어온새), a salon near Pungsan Station. Here's my review of the perm I got there.

Where is Hair Onsae near Pungsan Station, and where do you park?

Hair Onsae is a hair salon in Pungdong, Goyang, Gyeonggi (3 Jungsan-ro, B101), right in front of Pungsan Station. It's open 10:00-20:00 and has parking. The parking entrance is to the right of Burger King.

Finding a place you've never been to is surprisingly stressful, but since it's right by Pungsan Station, it wasn't as hard to find as I expected.

What is Hair Onsae like inside?

The salon is roomier than I expected and feels neat and tidy overall! The seats aren't crammed together and the treatment area is set up comfortably, so I felt relaxed the whole time I was getting my hair done.

Besides the regular salon floor, there's also a privately separated space, so it seems good for anyone who wants a quiet treatment.

Do you need to book Hair Onsae in advance?

I booked through Naver (Korea's main search and booking portal) and I'd say a reservation is almost essential! That way you won't have to wait~

I booked a specific stylist, the head stylist (실장님, "sil-jang-nim"), before visiting.

How did the consultation for a volume perm on thin hair go?

At Hair Onsae they start with a consultation, looking at your hair first. I wanted to bring back volume, and the stylist checked my hair density and hair quality and explained in detail how to get the prettiest result! She was so kind, and we talked about hair styles for a full 20 minutes.

Easier morning styling after the volume perm

💕 After the perm, styling is definitely easier. One reason I get perms is to cut down the time I spend on my hair every morning. With a perm, I just guide the direction of the curls while blow-drying and the overall shape mostly falls into place, which is much easier. Especially on busy mornings, simply drying my hair and putting on some essence brings the style to life, instead of curling it piece by piece with a curling iron, and I loved that.

The perm turned out so well, I'm really happy haha. My hair used to hang limp and flat, but now the curls are bouncy and full. My hair is incredibly thin, so perms usually don't take well, but she got it just right. 100% satisfied!

How long does a volume perm at Hair Onsae take?

The perm at Hair Onsae took about 2 hours in total after the consultation, I think! Hair rolled up and waiting, then the machine, then neutralizing, then washing and drying! She checked the heat every so often too, and was really thorough.

💇🏻‍♀️ Changing my look with a perm today! The biggest reason I came to Hair Onsae today was the perm! When your hair looks flat, nothing changes your look as easily as a perm. Before the treatment, we talked about my hair condition and the style I wanted, and the consultation was based on my current hair length and condition. Rather than going for strong curls no matter what, I wanted a style that looks naturally pretty with everyday styling, so I explained the feeling I wanted thoroughly before we started. A perm takes time from the solution to setting the curls, so I waited comfortably in between.

Anyway, I'm so happy with the result that I'll probably visit again!
