Songdo bakery café soft salt bread, no baguette crunch: Cozy Bear

In short

Cafe Cozy Bear Salt Bread Bakery Songdo Hagwonga Branch is a new salt bread bakery café in the private-academy district of Songdo District 1, Yeonsu, Incheon. Four plain salt breads (3,500 won each) and one garlic salt bread (5,000 won) were taken home, and the garlic version had knife cuts scored across the top so the garlic flavor soaked all the way inside, while the plain salt bread stayed soft and moist instead of hard. Cozy Bear suits anyone who dislikes salt bread that is as tough as a baguette.

Isn't the weather amazing lately? On a day like this, sitting on a café terrace in the afternoon with salt bread and coffee sounds absolutely perfect, right? Those of you who know Kim Beige know I'm a total bread lover haha. I heard a new salt bread bakery had opened in the hagwon (private academy) area of Songdo 1 district in Incheon, so I went to check it out today.

Where to park at Cozy Bear in Songdo's academy district

Cozy Bear is a salt bread bakery café located at 160-19 Haedoji-ro, 1st floor units 101–102, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon. It's open daily from 09:00 to 19:00, and you can use the building's underground parking lot or the public parking lot right in front of the store.

I happened to find an open spot in the public parking lot. Cozy Bear is right across from it, which makes parking really convenient. The building's underground parking is also available.

After parking, just a few steps away, right across the street, is Songdo bakery café Cozy Bear.

The clean ivory-colored exterior gave off a warm, bright feeling and really stood out.

Cozy Bear's salt bread bake times: 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Cozy Bear's salt bread is baked twice a day. You can taste freshly baked salt bread at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

  • Salt bread bake times: 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Only a set quantity produced each day

Since only a limited quantity is sold, they say it can sell out early once the prepared amount runs out.

Inside Cozy Bear: indoor seats and a terrace

There's terrace seating too, perfect for weather like this.

The store isn't huge, but with the terrace included there was a decent amount of seating.

Indoor seating at Cozy Bear

The bakery section, which takes up a large part of the store, has a window so I took a look inside. This is where the delicious salt bread gets made.

One side had a full glass wall, which gave a great sense of openness.

Once inside Cozy Bear, the smell of butter and coffee, true to a bakery café, tickled my nose. The drink menu was set up as shown in the photo on the right.

  • French fermented butter
  • Guérande sea salt
  • French flour
  • Coffee beans roasted with a national team barista
  • Handmade vanilla syrup

That good smell wasn't there for no reason — it made sense once I saw the quality ingredients going into the salt bread and coffee.

The salt breads are lined up in the display case. They also looked great packaged in boxes as gifts — the packaging was so cute and pretty.

The salt bread lineup!

  • Plain 3.5
  • Handmade ang-butter 5.8
  • Potato 4.5
  • Castella 5.0
  • Pollock roe (myeongran) 5.5
  • Garlic 5.0

Every type of salt bread on display looked so tempting that I stood there taking pictures and agonizing over what to pick. Torn between the pollock roe salt bread, the ang-butter salt bread, and the garlic salt bread, lol. I started with the essential plain one, then went back and forth between castella and garlic to the very end — what do you think I chose?

Cozy Bear's bread bags are cute too. Look at the bear on the packaging box with the salt breads, haha.

The size of the salt bread also passed Kim Beige's standards. Size matters to me too, haha. They were nice and big.

With a bread bag full of delicious salt bread in hand, I left Songdo bakery café Cozy Bear.

How do the garlic and plain salt breads taste?

Time to taste them — I rushed home to eat right away. Honestly I'm on a diet these days and trying to hold back, but I just couldn't resist. I'll allow myself just this once.

Plain and garlic salt bread laid out at home

The Guérande sea salt on top of the plain salt bread caught my eye, but what really grabbed my attention was the garlic salt bread. The knife cuts were such a thoughtful touch, letting the garlic aroma and flavor come through even more haha! You can taste the garlic flavor all the way to the inside of the bread. If you love garlic bread, this one is a must.

The plain salt bread had great buttery flavor, and the bread itself was soft and moist, which I loved. Can you see the soft texture in the photo? I once had salt bread at a place someone recommended and it was so hard, just like a baguette, that it was tough to eat — but Cozy Bear's salt bread was soft, which suited Kim Beige's taste perfectly.

One more shot of the cute salt bread from the side. Enjoying delicious salt bread and fragrant coffee on a beautiful afternoon at Songdo café Cozy Bear sounds like it would be wonderful. Next time, I'd love to try the terrace.
