I've been hooked on sweet cakes and desserts lately, so I keep wandering around Suwon looking for cafés with great cake, haha. Diaz, the café famous for its cakes, is one I think I've tried at every branch. I even bought cake from their pop-up at Starfield Suwon, that's how much I love it. It's just perfect for my taste. Today, of course, I went for cake again, to Diaz Cake Boutique (디아즈케이크부띠끄) near Suwon City Hall Station.
One of the big pluses of Diaz Cake Boutique is that it's a quiet place to sit, talk or get some work done. A café with a calm atmosphere is harder to find than you'd think, and this is exactly that kind of place. This time I came with my husband to read, and with tasty cake and drinks the pages just flew by, haha.
Where is Diaz Cake Boutique?
Diaz Cake Boutique is on Nahyeseok Street in Ingye-dong, a 5-minute walk from Exit 9 of Suwon City Hall Station. It's easy to find even on a first visit, and it's much quieter and less crowded than the other side of the street.

Walk a little way down Nahyeseok Street and you'll find Diaz Cake Boutique on the 2nd floor of the building right next to Starbucks. Café Diaz is on the 4th floor of the same building. The two aren't hugely different, but the 2nd-floor Diaz Cake Boutique, as the name suggests, has more kinds of cake and a much quieter atmosphere.

What are the cake prices and menu at Diaz Cake Boutique?
At Diaz Cake Boutique, the Fruit Montang whole cake was ₩49,000 and a cake slice was ₩11,900. With "Café Hotel" written at the entrance, you feel like you're walking into a hotel lobby before you even step inside.

True to a cake boutique, you see the cakes in the fridge display as soon as you walk in. I came late today, so a lot of the cakes were already gone, which made me sad, haha.

There are whole cakes and slices, and they're so pretty you'd think they were samples. They're piled high with fruit and look really delicious.

Looking at the cross-section of a slice, it's packed with fruit inside too, haha. The Fruit Montang whole cake was ₩49,000 and a slice was ₩11,900.

2nd-floor Diaz Cake Boutique or 4th-floor Café Diaz: which one?
Among cafés with great cake, many have disappointing drinks, but Diaz Cake Boutique has a fairly wide drink menu. Each floor has its pros and cons: if you want more drinks to choose from, I'd recommend Café Diaz on the 4th floor, and if you want a bit more quiet, the 2nd-floor Diaz Cake Boutique.

What are the atmosphere and seating like at Diaz Cake Boutique?
Diaz Cake Boutique is laid out like a corridor, and the corridor tables are fixed sofa seats. They're good for sitting and talking and feel a little private, so they're perfect for couples on a date.

Go further inside and there's a wide space opened up by big windows. The tables and curtains give off a total luxury hotel lobby vibe, which instantly lifted my mood.

And at the back there are cute tea products on display, which are fun to look through. Just seeing this part made me feel like a princess, haha.

How do the vanilla rooibos, grapefruit ade and Fruit Montang cake slice taste?

If you order tea at Diaz Cake Boutique, it comes in a pretty teapot. That feels much more upscale than just being served in a teacup, and I liked it.

I ordered the Kusmi Tea (쿠스미티) Vanilla Rooibos. The tea leaves are just put in loose, so after 3 minutes you strain the tea through the filter and drink it.

Even with the strainer a few tea leaves slip through, but it wasn't bothersome. It was smooth and fragrant, a taste worth the money.

My husband ordered a cold grapefruit ade, with a grapefruit on top, so it looked great. The fizz was refreshing and I liked the slightly bitter grapefruit flavor.

For cake, I picked the Fruit Montang slice, which beats my expectations whenever I have it.

As the name ("Fruit Montang" means loads of fruit) says, it's piled with fruit: figs, oranges, kiwi, Shine Muscat grapes and more.

The sponge is full of fruit too, and they say the cream is 100% dairy. It was rich and sweet, and really delicious.

What kind of day suits Diaz Cake Boutique?
Overall, Diaz Cake Boutique is a cake spot that's delicious anytime and great for gifts, and I had a lovely time. The quiet atmosphere was perfect for sitting with my husband, chatting and reading, and the sunlight pouring through the big windows made it feel like we'd traveled far away.
It's a great cake place to buy from for birthdays and anniversaries, and I think I can also recommend it as a date or blind-date café near Suwon City Hall Station^^
